One Item for BM a Day (2010-2012)
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Had to go sign for a package - and was totally surprised and super excited it was my LED lights... those things are bright and cool. I can't believe they run off 3 AA batteries.
I also forgot that I decided to get 2 of the multi-colored ones and WOW are they dynamite! Now I just have to make a decision on where I want to use all these - I know 2 strands are going on the bikes.
Woo hoo - glowing happy lighted eyes!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Did a test run with the small tent, and glad we did, as we came up with some issues that will need to be worked out.
Also, since we went camping last weekend, I was able to go through the 'burning bins' to clean, and restock them.
Bought a bunch of batteries
Worked on the parking plan for the camp.
Added a few items to the shopping list.
This weekend I'll set up the monkey hut to make sure everything is still there, and that the PVC didn't become too brittle over the year. Also might fur the bikes...typing that just gave me an idea...maybe I'll fur the monkey hut PVC...LOL.

Are you sure you're not talking about a ticket? Because they sold out of pstyles for this year on Monday.Minxy wrote:I know, I know. *looks sheepish* I've wanted one since you posted about it. Whaaat? You read my blog and don't have one, yet??I keep one on me for the trip/Gate and one in my packed stuff.

Pstyles aren't sold out.

Oh....is that a ticket joke?
Did I tell y'all I sold my first Ebay item? A vintage sanitary napkin belt. To a lady who still uses them. The other ones end soon....nothing's going for what I hoped (yet). And I just can't believe nobody wants this tie
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... :MESELX:IT
If I wore ties, I'd be buried in it.
Dropped off more clothes to sell. Went through books again. Surely somebody out there also collects Emma Goldman and Anais Nin material...I think I might donate my Chaim Potok collection to the local synagogue...
Assembled a project pile of tops I'll never sew. It's really hard and time-consuming, without a mannequin (I have a mannequin that was perfect...50lbs ago).

Will send in my order today for blinking lights and solar lamps. Did anyone else have a momentary feeling of panic yet excitement when they read the "36 days" till the man burns in the JRS newsletter? I really need to stop making lists of things to do and start doing them.

If people are having difficulties finding p-styles or don't use eBay, these are just a sample of what's available, in order of price:
I laugh to see that the freshette (the one I like) is going for $29.95. Hilarious. Don't do it. I bought mine for under $20. Add to cart, wait a few days, visit your cart a few days later and the price will often has dropped--and the cart has a mechanism that actually tells you so! They're trying to tempt you. (I frequently invite them to do so.)
Or get a cheaper one. The other two look fine. The Lady Elegance . . .
. . . looks easier, the Go Girl is compact and cheapest.
Rehearsing is usually the key.

Jella--awesome rickshaw! Savannah--I just got my go-girl in the mail from amazon (dirt cheap!) Need to practice, thanks for the tip!
Last night we started assembling the mobile "spring break experience" and we couldn't stop smiling! Got most of the props from goodwill, which is good, because I can justify all the money I've been spending there as charity. I don't think my car can pass a thrift without stopping lately--It's sick! Feels like it's getting close.
I figure we have 3 weekends between now and leaving for the playa---OMG!

I haven't tried pounding one in just yet. I live in Oil & Gas country, so pounding a stake a few feet down into the earth is somewhat risky business.Elorrum wrote:very clever, the doubling up of the curved part. something to hammer on. I'm thinking I should invest in a 4 foot farm jack for pulling them out. only like $50 from HF, and with a million other uses beyond BM.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
They sure look pretty. It's been my experience that they are a bit hard to pound in the hard playa, as the hammer never strikes directly above the part of the stake that's being driven into the ground.
Don't waste $50. Just bring a pair of channel locks or vice grips. That's all you'll need to pull them. Sometimes if they are being resistant, just pour a little water around them.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I was considering welding a third 6" length parralel to the main spike portion of them to hammer on to deal with this issue. This kind of thing always consumes FAR more time than anticipated though. I spent almost an entire day making all of them as-is, so they will have to do; hopefully it's not too big of an issue.jkisha wrote:They sure look pretty. Jury's still out on the farm jack. Depends if I can think of another reason that I "need" it. :p

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I got all my day and night clothes done, my ticket for BM, a sleeping bag, a comforter, pillows, my early pass, my camp placement, and my airline ticket.
My tent came in with issues. I now have to figure out if my crappy texas tent will work somehow or if I can borrow my friends three season as I don't think it will come in on time.
So whats my one thing? I got idea for canning food and I am looking at food saver-ing a few things now that I know its ok to fly with cold food as long as you use freezer packs and not dry ice!

Thought I was all done shopping but I broke down and bought a reclining lounger. Making sure I can rest comfortably is going to be key to my enjoyment.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
in addition to the goggles I also got some utility belt pouches that were on clearance at the local army surplus store and a single person first aid kit that will fit in one of said pouches. Oh and a little camera pouch with carabiner (also on clearance) that I will use for my hand-held gps. My utility belt is running out of room! Maybe I need to make my belly larger hmm...nah fuck it...not enough time

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I cleaned up my boudoir and added more fuel to the clothing fire.
Also decided to part with three bustier things I made. They're not fancy, and far from professionally finished, but anybody want them?
This one
is an old medical back brace painted black and covered with denim bits from some Tripp graver pants
this one

is fabric sewn onto a girdle, but just to the sides. The pocket kinda flattens your boob. And then this one that you can't really see well

You can get a better idea of it's shape here: http://playabound.wordpress.com/2010/08 ... ered-post/
I'm a 14-18ish. I'd just ask for a smidge of help with postage.

I like the first one!
Cleaned out the airstream of all random stuff, starting to load in costumes and non-perishable items. PLaying tetris with stuff is fun all on it's own. Finished eight more cooling neckbands.

Went to the military surplus store and got goggles, paracord and big desert scarves that were recommended on eplaya somewhere. wow, it's really happening!
Also bought some Horizon shelf stable milk to test since I've never had it before. So far the strawberry is awesome. Haven't gotten to the chocolate or vanilla yet.

oh oh oh, i think pick up in person if you have space to bring it. Whatever is easier on you.
Today I made southern sweet tea and put it in the juice jugs we've been saving and into the freezer.
Working on a couple of vests for the sparkle stallion. He's been shoring up some shelves in the airstream to hold some of the heavier stuff and sorting tools. Trying to get those organized into two containers.

Re: One Item for BM a Day

test assembled my 20x30 conduit shade structure yesterday, and then we made these stakes.
Welded a washer to rebar so we can attach ratchet straps directly.
Planning to hit the rebar caps with some UV reactive paint, and stick a couple UV LED on em. I bought a pack of 25 capxs and only need 16, so i'll probably "gift" the leftovers to any unprotected rebar i stumble across in between our camp and the portajohns.
