Seeking an ordained minister for playa wedding =)

Post by Minxy » Mon Aug 01, 2011 4:38 pm

If anyone (Dr. Helix?!?!) can suggest an ordained minister they are familiar with that is reliable and nice or if you're one yourself, please feel free to post here or PM me.

I'm exploring options to get our wedding done on playa and I'm cutting it fine on time as our plans have gone back and forth around this. It won't be the end of the world if this doesn't happen but I'd like to try. =)

I have written several people that are on the 2011 Theme Camp list and also contacted folks who have posted here that they do weddings. I'm just all about exploring my options.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or ideas!

Look for Ranger Beauty. She officiated when I married Scott, and she's on this board.

Ordained by whom? The P.C.A.? ECCA? Subgenius?

I'm a notary, "ordained" to marry people in South Carolina... 8)

Ordained by anyone! I don't care. Someone legally qualified to marry people in the US (specifically including Nevada!) =D

I would go with Yggy. I can vouch for his authenticity. But that's about it.

Not the one where the bride shoves a pizza in the groom's face, I hope...

Try contacting Lauren at http://prismmagicclothing.com/
She's a friend of mine and was our minister for our (legal, off playa) wedding. I know she has 4 weddings on playa and working a lot of shifts out there this year, but she may be able to help.

There's also an email on the main site for weddings, someone who helps on--playa weddings occur...

Congratulations! Sorry I didn't see this sooner Minxy as I am ordained and love doing both on and off-playa weddings. However, for anyone not specifically ordained in Nevada, there are some hoops that have to be jumped through to get the paperwork in order prior to the wedding. If you still need help, let me know and we may be able to expedite. The county clerk there that issues the licenses is really very kind and efficient.

Challenging nuptials

Post by oddmanout » Sun Aug 07, 2011 5:19 pm

Interesting issue on this note. Ever hear of a marriage annulled due to the qualifications of the offical? Not likely. Here in WA the law is so vague, you could sign it "gumby". I coulda' saved the ten bucks I sent the Universal life church back in the '70's!! No doubt your marriage will be safe if gumby really officiated. I suspect also, as grounds for divorce, the waste of a filing fee.

I'd marry you but I'm single.

I am ordained as well, and have my very own Darth Vader armor and mask to marry you in.

Being a complaint driven system it would only be an issue if someone challenged it... No challenge - no problem.

I think she has somebody else in mind to marry MDMF

Good Lord! All of these ordained Ministers here in the board and acting the way I have been! I should be ashamed of myself.

But I'm not.

Actually, Nevada really does have some hoops that have to be negotiated if you are ordained in any other state. If my memory serves, it's not driven by the marriage being challenged, but if the minister is not pre-qualified by the county (which requires certification that they actually have a congregation), the license is not ever recorded! So no legal marriage.

Sweetheart, Since I brought it up, I'll try to actually produce some factoids. Here's a link about marriage law reasonably specific to NV.

http://www.leg.state.nv.us/NRS/NRS-122.html

The clergy or "other person authorized to solemnize a marriage... in another state." All "clergy" has to do is poof the clerk. Try a pink chip.

Primarily, you may not have time to file in NV if you haven't already. Local folks perhaps can cut red tape.

Every county and city in NV may also have their own rules as far as legalities.

Stick with darth vader, cause NV is another world.

You may want to consider legal quibbles in your local area, and celebratory aspects enplaya.

Pardon me if I hijacked this thread.
