Me too. Even though we can't act on removing them, it would make it easier to avoid them.

Okay, this latest tool actually started a post in this sub-forum. I'm glad I don't think it was on purpose, because I gotta kinda give him props, if it were.

Also..

This new thing with spambots posting images, you can report those images for violation of TOS to the image host.

http://stream.imageshack.us/content.php ... il&q=abuse

Right click and copy the image location, then report the image to the host for deletion.

You just can't get good help these days ;)

Just flag and ignore, we'll get to it when we can. ePlaya may be an awesome place, but our tiny little corner of the internet has little (and by little, I mean nothing) in the way of spambot protection

Would it do any good to request the 'power' to suspend a user? I can understand the powers that be not wanting you regular pleb mods to delete people (I am kidding. I don't think you're plebs, but you're being treated as such.), but it seems harmless to allow you to suspend accounts for 48 or 72hrs. I know that's a fairly easy add on to phpbb.

Nope, the admins don't want to do their jobs, just hold the title. So they certainly wouldn't want to allocate their powers to someone that actually cares about the board and has time to do the job right. After all, if they did that, they wouldn't be relevant any longer, now would they? They must all be republican tea baggers.

It's only a tiny bit of their powers, besides they wouldn't show up to actually delete people in that 48hr period so our regular visiting mods could at least put those bastards in a time out again, and again, and again.

I share your sentiment completely.

I don't know everyone in the org, but I do know a few people and I can honestly say that I don't believe it's a case of admins wanting to hoard power. Very small organization (org chart-wise), very limited resources on staff. Remember, this (the whole of Burning Man) is a weird sort of experiment. I had a good (though brief) face to face meeting at the BM Project launch shindig tonight, and am planning to head over to BMHQ next week to see what I can do to help not only deal with the spammy phisherbots, but the cause of our beloved ePlaya in general.

You know, that's pure crap! I'm glad you're having the meeting, but if it doesn't end in you and/or AntiM or any of the other mods elevated to admins I will rest my case. If they dont trust you guys enough to be admins, what other reason could there be? None that makes any sense in light of the good your promotion would do for eplaya.

They aren't doing their job and they are preventing anybody else from doing it either.

You're assuming that the current situation is the result of malice, and not simply neglect. If you give someone a list of 1000 things to do, but there's only time to get 700 of those things done, stuff doesn't get done/gets neglected. The current situation sucks, but will get better.

We haven't found a way to stop the PM spam. Hit the report icon, then delete the message. I'm hoping Trilobyte can get at the root of that problem soon.

This is annoying: in less time than it took to post a minor correction to a discussion that I had just started, somebody had already spammed it.

The Discussion: Proposed Event: Overflow

Spam Post: organisms download oem software

The Spammer: FROGFUFFFIC

Desirable Outcome: His slow, lingering death at my hands, over a period of months. But there are still a few laws that would get in my way, if I was going to make that happen, so I guess I'll have to settle for him being banned from the forum by IP address.
