Those are really interesting. If you are concerned with wind though wouldn't it cause less havoc on the rear wheel where it is less likely to affect steering? Could also try some vent holes - might make an interesting sound as well.tootsybean wrote:Wheel covers / spinners today, coroplast (plastic cardboard) and various mylar and reflective tapes. I picked up some patterned duck tape to put on my bike as I'm not into furring it and don't really have the time to do a nice paint job this close to departure.Jax Dee wrote:Kinda broke right now. Any ideas on tricking this out without me spending money? Ideas are welcome.

The Hobby Lobby by me has 24"x36" (I think) sheets/rolls of patterned duct tape!Drawingablank wrote:

SHEETS!!!!
It might be easier to cut a piece to wrap around the center bar, than wrap a strip around a bunch of times.

Target has patterned duct tape--animal prints, a "baroque" (brocade) pattern, camo, "tie-dye", Hello Kitty, etc. Including online . . .
I don't know how well that stuff comes off, so I'd probably only put it on a beater bike, though, not a new one. I'd be scared of lifting off the paint.

Thx for all the great ideas guys for my trike! Still not sure what I'm gonna do but lighting is my first priority I think. I need to be visible and not run over at night. Loved the LED ideas. Gotta do some research.
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Jax - a dude in our camp made UV throwies and then put UV reactive stickers all over his bike, I can't wait to see how that turns out!
On my end... I abandoned what was originally my "big" idea and came up with something new that will be much less work, but much, much more awesome! I'm buying the rest of the stuff I need tonight, but was able to pick up the small screen printing kit I need during lunch (!!)

Last year we had the 6 foot fiberglass poles that normally have flags on them, but we tied EL wire to it. Made the bikes easy to find from a distance...little whips of light in the air. Planning the same this year. All of it is pretty cheap.
Got my last shipment of blinky shit from China, along with a handlebar bracket for an umbrella...hopefully to keep the sun off my nugget.
Last box should be shipped off to San Diego this week!

But something happens when you switch the M from Motor to Mutant that just really makes things work a hell of a lot smoother.

Today, I was in Home Depot for the first time in a while. They have *pink* 5 gallon buckets without the goofy logo advertising on it. Too bad I already have a bucket. I really want a pink one!
Got an LED dog collar from Deal Extreme. Unfortunately, it's too big for my neck, but I think it'll make a good headband.
Bought my sweetie a nice see-through slinky top at a consignment store. It's always risky buying other people clothes, but it fits and she likes it.

Very cool Robrob !
Burning Man isn't about the stuff you see when you get there ....it's about the people that brought that stuff there
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Wow, severe bike envy here. That's fabulous.
It reminds me as a kid we used to get these plastic tube spiral thingies (think slinky-like but plastic) that you could wind around the cross bar, handle bars, fork, etc. Similar effect, of course, we never had anything like those wheels. Sweet.

I used some of the yellow and blue tonight and at least they seem to still work...darn USPS machinery!
I had a mini attach-to-fur/suede crisis with my coat for a second but then I took a deep breath looked at it a different way and it was averted

Re: One Item for BM a Day
RobRob - that bike is amazing! Maybe some clear UV reactive over my existing paint job? I like my trike the way it is cause it is a beautiful bright blue with blue flames. It has a flag. I think decorate and light the flag. Maybe UV reactive paint and some UV lights? I just gotta try to do it on a budget. I had everything budgeted out perfect for my needs and for Burning Man. I've already spent the money on BM needs. Saving up for my COBRA payments for health care. But something went wrong, long story about what surgery was covered etc, and I had to upgrade to the more expensive insurance. All of a sudden I owe $1800 instead of $1300 on 9/6/11. So I am scrambling to make another $500 without sacrificing all the work I put into going to BM already. I put up a bunch of stuff on Craigslist for sale. Already made $20 today, yay! Wondering if Ebay might work better though.
Anyone have Ebay experience? Should I check out selling on there? I have a couple high end items like Michael Kors pumps and a fur coat that I think might do better there than Craigslist. So suggestions are welcome!

I like the lights that go in the wheels. not the super expensive hokey spokes. or monkey somethings... those are extremely cool, but... there are less expensive less elaborate variations.
just a simple flasher spinning around, but on three wheels it would be neat.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Jax, eBay is probably better for your purposes. Craigslist things tend to be local and general and the buyers tend to act accordingly (i.e. cheaply, like someone at a yard sale), eBay is seen all over, and collectors prefer it (and may fight over something, knowing they have competition). There's a reason scalpers love it, but what you'd be doing isn't shady.
I hope you don't paint the bike 'til next year; the paint sounds beautiful! Great lights and flag stuff sound more than enough, cheaper too. And then, if the paint gets damaged, it's an easy choice to paint it next time.
Today's scores: 3 camera batteries, 2 memory cards (I miss film cameras already, but maybe this new venture will be fun) . . . and an extra pee funnel for the road.
