Registering Camp Location ???
Aloha!!!!!!
2 Weeks till our exodus into the black rock dessert.
Looking to lock down some prime real estate for my group.... Camp Camp.
I was wondering how you register your camp with the BM peeps.
I see this burnermap and have found someone else using our camp name... Camp Camp
But I dont know how we can make sure to get the area we need for the rest of our group.
Which will be quite a few of us.
Already planning on being 1st in line.
Any one have some tips?

1st in line ? I'm not sure if your kidding and I am by no means an expert on these matters but "prime real estate" is sorted by BMORG after the deadline for camp registration closes which was some time back. I wonder if someone is also using the name camp camp
Your best bet is prolly open camping, good luck

Thanks Jella,
Sad we missed the registration dates... but someone has registered camp camp at 9:30 and kindergarden so I guess I will try and see if there's space for us.
Or open camping it is.
We are a little disorganized to say the least...

Re: Registering Camp Location ???
If someone has registered a "Camp Camp" at 9:30 and Kindergarten they probably can't absorb another camp--simply because they already had to submit plans, logistics, square footage etc.
If you have a camp sign too, you might want to give them a little space so as to reduce confusion.
It doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself in Open Camping. Open camping is right next to Theme Camp space. There is no wrong side of the tracks.

Re: Registering Camp Location ???
Ok now I have to ask a stupid question too. I never thought about this before since I've always been with my camp that is already assigned space. I'm trying to mentally plot out where to encourage some friends that are coming to camp as to be closest to our placed camp at 7:30 & G/F.
As you look at the map, are only the purple areas the pre-assigned theme camp areas? Is pretty much anything in white open for first come/first serve?

That's how I would read it.

Re: Registering Camp Location ???
The shaded areas are definitely assigned to registered theme camps, but there may also be additional space reserved. Treat the shaded areas as absolutely unavailable, in some cases there are registered art projects and additional logistics needs that require placement to make use of additional bits of the city.
At this point, your 'registration' process is simple. Once you arrive in BRC, find a spot you like from the space available remaining space. Once you've staked your claim and set up, head on over (or send a campmate) to Playa Info, situated right behind Center Camp. Enter in your camp name and info, that way if/when friends come looking for you, they can find you easily.
If you haven't already done so, you may want to try your hand at making some sort of icon or sign for your camp that you can share with friends and then put up at the front of your camp. Flag, stencil on wood or a sheet, anything. Good luck!

Roughly, yes. In reality, the borders vary a bit. One year I had a map with more detail to the exact borders. Not sure if that year they posted it online, of if it was in the material I got from the greeters.junglesmacks wrote:As you look at the map, are only the purple areas the pre-assigned theme camp areas? However, placement might change those things to the last minute. So if you are targeting a white area right next to the shaded ones, watch for the placement flags on the ground, or check with the placers if you get there. That's if you get in early. AFAIK, all reserved space expires when the gates officially open.
But generally, yes, the white areas are open for first come first serve.
