Fanny pack for Hippies...What are they called?!
Does anybody know what the leather pocket belt thing-a-magigs that Burners wear are called? They are like a new age hippie fanny pack with several pockets around the waist, some have a caribeaner for your water. I'm trying to find one but I'm coming up with a bunch 80's fanny packs. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Just guessing

Belt bag or playa belt, utility belt.
You can assemble one easily at an Army surplus store from a $5-10 belt and the little clip-on bags.
I also have a friend who makes utility belts in leather (among other things).

This is the last few days in which he could make one in time for the playa and still ship it to you.

There's also the old standby: Pod Belts (even though they've never updated the front page of their website. Those images were up when I bought my first belt from them in '05). I've used these every year since '05, love them.
Another option I've seen done is taking an old pair of pants or jeans (that still fit around waist) and then cut off the legs etc & make those into a belt (using the ready-made pockets)

Those are made & shipped from Malaysia so you'd better plan on expensive shipping to get them in time.yojessimac wrote:Oh wow look at these hip bags I found on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62182638/sa ... t=handmade
You might want to try these or these... If you're buying them this close to the event you probably don't want to double the price with rush shipping from overseas.

Re: Fanny pack for Hippies...What are they called?!
So I ended up buying a $15 Dakine fanny pack for now. I want to be able to carry a small pack of baby wipes, chapstick and a bottle opener with me, and also have a place to put my moop. I think it'll fit me well for functionality, but I am going to save up for a nice playa utility belt for next year.
Thanks for all the helpful information everyone. See you in less than a month!

That's what my kids have been calling them since they were 4 years old, dressed up in capes & pretending to be Batman. I had plenty to choose from when I put my belt together...DustyZ wrote:At all the festivals I go to people call them Utility Belts.

I have one from Happy Cow. I think they use the phrase "hands free bags" to describe them. Mine is the "leather waist pack". Check them out: http://www.happycow.com.au

It should be in the "resources" edition of the JRS, but I honestly didn't look this year. I'm pretty set for supplies.aknod wrote:Any idea where to find the "Black Rock Citizen discount code"?Eric wrote:There's also the old standby: Pod Belts (even though they've never updated the front page of their website.
