Diesel gas availability

I'm driving a diesel truck from Seattle to Winnemucca (to meet someone driving from Denver) to BRC. I want to fill my tank when I'm getting close to BRC so's I don't have to fill it on the way out. Is diesel gas pretty plentiful as one nears the final destination? Or should I bring some gas (or is that really stupid and it will spontaneously combust in the heat or something?)

Okay, that last bit is probably a really stupid question but I'm kind of clueless about most things combustible and gaseous (plenty of toilet humor jokes abound there...)

I do not believe there is such a thing as a stupid question, only a stupid answer. You are safe if you carry spare fuel in a proper container. It will not explode due to normal heat. I do not remember if there is diesel in Gerlach. Being it is a little remote and many vehicles these days run on diesel I would be surprised it there isn't. When I go in with my truck I usually get fuel at the Pilot or Love's truck stop in Fernley. Most diesel trucks have large tanks and that is more than enough to get you BRC and back to the highway. If you are in a motorhome and need the diesel to run the jenny, you may wish to carry extra.

Diesel FUEL can explode only under certain conditions, compression and vaporation, so you don't have to worry about any kind of transport system. You can pour some out on the sidewalk and toss a match in it and the match will go out, do not try that with gasoline. However, one of the things you want to avoid is getting fuel in places that don't sell much, water will condense in the tanks, get pumped into your tank and eventually bugger up either your fuel filer, fuel pump or if things are really not going your way, injectors. Therefore whenever possible fuel up at a truck stop or some other place where you know that a lot of diesel is sold.

And call it diesel fuel, not gas. If my father, the diesel engineer, heard you saying diesel gas he would probably steal your truck on general principals.

Yes SIR!!!! Actually it's not my truck. I drive a Neon, which proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that I don't know shit 'bout shit. The truck belongs to my man, and it's resting dormant in our driveway for a year because he's serving in Iraq. But I will soon be hanging up those wussy Neon keys and taking up the reins of that big rumbling behemoth to cart me and my stuff in style down to BRC. He'll be so proud when he comes home next year and hears me saying "diesel fuel" instead of "diesel gas". (also proud to see I've learned to pitch a tent and light a camp stove...unless I can wield lots of cold beer to bribe people to help me....)

If you get stuck, wander over to Bouncy Bouncy Camp. (Somewhere around 5:00 and Mercury.) I should be able to get you enough fuel to get you back out to the highway, at least. I'll be driving my old F250 (towing a trailer) to the event and she runs on Biodiesel. Works the same as diesel, for all intents and purposes. I was planning on towing a 55 gallon drum, just so I don't have to pay crazy fuel prices up and over the mountain.

If you don't need fuel, just stop by and say hi.

By the way, the new coleman stoves, you dont have to light. They come with self-starters. Maybe you should buy your man a new campstove! You know, just being considerate and making life easier for him...

We will stop by Bouncy Bouncy Camp, sounds intriguing. We're going to try to camp between 4:30 and 5:00 somewheres, so we'll be close by. And thanks for the offer of diesel fuel; although probably I will by a large gas - I mean fuel - container and just keep some spare...
