Hellllllllo; from chicago!

Post by codyconstantdrum » Sat Aug 06, 2011 8:09 pm

Hello all; my name is Cody, pleased to meet all of you! I'm a BM virgin, however I did attend my first burn (LoF) not too long ago; needless to say I'm addicted. :) I would be attending the big burn this year if I had a source of income but unfortunately I just moved up to Chicago from Baton Rouge so I am without a job . There's always next year though! I'm a musician, interested in literally every kind of music. Everything i've ever heard; even the things i'm less fond of inspire me and I try to incorporate it in to my own playing. I play drums/percussion and am actually very interested in joining (or perhaps forming..?) a music group intending to perform at BM as well as other burner events/festivals. I'm new to all of this, attending only one burn and a few burner events there-after; so I'm kind of at a loss of how to go about doing so. I also don't know how to find out about events in advanced :O, it seems i'm always being informed of really cool events the day before or the day of that they are happening which stops me from going to a lot of them. I look forward to chatting with you all more, love and happiness to you all.
i am cody, i am music. i am happy, i am (finally) home.

Hi Cody!

See the Regionals & Events board lower down on this forum. There's always some event or other going on. I'll be nice and direct link it, but it's easy to spot from the main ePlaya menu too.

Also, go to "Regionals" in the small print at the top of the main Burning Man site, click on the map and add yourself to the Chicago regional email mailing lists. There are a lot of Chicago burners, and I'll bet they have a great Decompression party after the Burn, which you might love.

The more local Burners you click with, the easier it is to have fun, learn, and network.

Whatever you do, no hippie drum circles. Maybe that's what all the dubstep is for, drowning out that phenomenon.
But I"m off on my tangents. Welcome to eplaya. Live music on the playa is there, but the recorded stuff has a higher profile. so, do you want to work with people before hand? Then look in Chicago. If you don't mind having a bit of chaos, then you can work with people elsewhere.

Lol, I actually never saw what all the hype about massive hippie drum circles was. I love playing with other drummers/percussionists, but once you reach a certain amount of people the hope for having any kind of structure to what you're playing is doubtful. And i'm not quite sure what you mean but I want to be in an original group who writes/composes their own music that has a solid foundation with open room for improvisation in live performances. I've just jammed with plenty of other musicians, but I'm kind of tired of jamming with random assortments of people and ready to be in an actual group w/ set members, lol. I guess i'm just going to have to do what I thought and put myself out there, attend more events and meet the right people.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!
Elderberry

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me
