Vaping on the Playa

Post by LEVLHED » Sun Aug 07, 2011 9:03 am

I've been using a electronic cigarette since December and have no intention of going back to analog cigs for the burn!
I have the battery charging part covered. I'll be rocking 18650's in a Precise. I'm concerned about how dust interacts with atty's though.
Does anyone have any experience/tips/advice for vaping on the playa?

I think junglesmacks knows about the alternative tobacco/cig products best.

Dust isn't a problem with those working, but the appearance of an "alternative" stempipe device that the user exhales smoke from raises the eyebrows of LEOs at the event and might get your person searched after they see you toking on it.

Well apparently the different brands all have different designs, I'm looking at one my lady friend uses made by SafeCig.

It seems like the air intake along the tip would get clogged eventually, at first it just might be hard to pull, but eventually you might mess up your heating element. That said, not an insurmountable problem. I could see putting a fitted metal casing around the tip with a filter at the end (even a filter from a real cig, or from filter tubes)

Then you'll have the first "analogue/electric" cigarette!

Yeah, I can see the air intake holes getting clogged up is an eventuality.
I wonder what vaporized playa dust tastes like...

This thread talks about ecigs: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?p=401194

This thread talks about them & LEO's: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=34174

More: http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=28088

I googled: eplaya AND ecigs

The search function on the board itself sucks even more now than it did before the upgrade. As long as you use the "eplaya AND" format you should be able to find things.

Thanks for the tip on using google search, though all three of those threads are worthless to me. I'm not trying to quit, I switched because I want to "smoke" more. And I don't care about the politics, LEO's/etc.

I'm specifically interested in the how well e-cigs work in the dust and what to do to keep them working!

Bring some real cigs and if the eFag stops working your problems are solved.

My guess is that the nicotine liquid will dry out faster (kinda like how a real cig burns quicker out there) so you'll have to change cartridges more often, and there is a risk of dust getting all in it but as long as you dont use it in a dust storm things should work just fine.

I think that it is more likely that you will be inhaling the playa dust that comes through the intake than the playa dust sticking to the intake and clogging. What exactly is there to stick to? Playa only sticks to wet things.

If it did stick, cartridges would be the way to go, since you would be switching them out through the event. Otherwise you are going to have to find a way to clean it yourself, which might be as simple as immersion in water and vigorous shaking, or might involve a vinegar wash.

cleaning is a regular part of the process anyway.
I wonder how cleaning with vinegar actually works for the non-playa junk...I might have to try that before we split.
I can't imagine vaporized vinegar being a very satisfying flavor.

Yeah, that's why you would want to rinse it with water when you are done.

I go with diluted lemon juice when vinegar is called for but I have no knowledge of e-cigs.
Might be worth a shot.

I am not sure what kind of e-cig you have but mine is the Blu brand (so if they work the same, this might be a problem out there).. if you don't have it in its case, whenever the wind blows it's going to pretty much smoke itself dry.. and with all the high winds, you might just be better off going without or getting regular cigarettes..

I sucked off my first eFag last week. Very satisfying! Where do you recommend picking one up this close to the burn? What brand do you go with? I'm totally new to this world of smoking so I haven't a clue...

There's tons of different ways to go/brands. I just stepped up to a big battery mod, but for the past 8 months I've been using Joye 510. It is one of the more popular ones for a reason. I've always ordered from cignot.com, they are fast. There are lots of other places though too. The best/biggest forum I've found so far is http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/ I suggest taking some time reading there to learn a bit about what is what.

I'd rather not have anything than smoke an analog cig! I plan to make mine work for me out there, but I'll probably take a bag of Drum just in case. Back in April I smoked an analog cig and it tasted unbelievably nasty.

I would rather see that than prescription drug stuff.
