There has been an information board in years past, I assume it'll be there again:Delicious wrote:I will be setting up camp before my friends get to the playa, Is there a place that they can go that i can leave a whereabouts as to how to find me?

BUT as you can see, it'll be difficult for them to find you specific note amoungst the thousands of others (there are 2 sides of this board too).
Good luck, and bring a stapler.

You can also put your info on PlayaNet which, when it's up and running, is a great, searchable means of finding someone. If you're going to use the bulletin board, make up a sign in advance, bright and obvious - maybe red and white stripes, or black with a yellow circle in the middle - and make them look at it before you leave, so that they know what they're looking for.
Don't fall into the "Playanet is for nerds!" fallacy. We brought a friend down last year who was hoping to spend time with his cousin, but he never found her. When he asked why she didn't put her location into PlayaNet as she promised, her response was "I don't go to Burning Man to play with a computer." Obviously, she didn't go there to meet the people she planned to, either.

I had a friend last year you brought a cardbored box and put rocks in it, wrote there name, the names of there friends and the location and left it at the community bored. When her friends got there they went right to it and brought it back with them to camp and at the end of the week hauled it back out with them.

You might also figure out a ballpark area of where you are want to camp, i.e. "somewhere between Saturn and Neptune and between 3 and 4 o'clock." That way, if your friends aren't able to find your message on the board, they can at least have some idea of where you are going to be, and they can look for you. Although excessive cruising around looking for your friends is kinda discouraged, so try to make your predicted camp within a narrow area.

Do you know what time your friends will be arriving? If so, just set a time and place for them to meet you, and then lead them back to wherever you're camped. One warning (I learned this my first year): Don't have them meet you at The Man. There are far too many people there, and it's far too big an area.

I agree with kairyth. It sort of depends on how many people you're holding space for, but if it's just a small group you should be fine as long as you're not trying to setup in prime real estate. I had friends camped at 7:30 and sedna this year, they had lots of space available even late in the week.
It's going to be alright.
