I'm guessing Raiders could do a great job without the fire.

Re: Taunt The Man
Can I ask a question, Mr. Casanova? Temporarily serious here.
Is there a rule or reason why the fire-spinning starts at midnight? Because, seems to me if you really loved to do it you would be starting just as soon as it was dark enough to see.
My regional group (so-called "DC" though, I don't think any of them actually live here) holds their practices in some gods-forsaken ex-urb at, guess what, midnight
absolutely guaranteed to alarm the local law with their devilry, and an indicator to me at least that none of these folks earn their own rent money
or ever aspire to. Honestly there are wide open fields on the Mall here they could use at 9 PM and get home afterwards by Metro, at a reasonable hour and without driving impaired. I decided that the remote-location-at-midnight business was part of some tragic-outcast pose and immediately deleted those folks from my List of Interesting People.
If there is a reason why the hours of darkness before midnight are unsuitable for fire art, then, I will think again. (Though that does not excuse the suburbanism).

Re: Taunt The Man
well said MDF I too have often wondered at the need for such late fire activities, the people i used to spin with down in portsmouth hampshire england used to gather nice and early (often before darkness) to spin when they ran out of fuel we would retire to the nearest hostelry and drink copious amounts of beer, purely on medical grounds i assure you. Also sunset being a good time to gather for the timekeeping impaired being as its not a time that requires a watch or anything.MyDearFriend wrote:Can I ask a question, Mr. Casanova? Re: Taunt The Man
the reason is because the doors "officially" open @ midnight on that day, so its kinda for the people that just enter the city that wanna catch some cool fire shows

The truly fire-art-addicted, of course, will even go so far as to ply their trade in broad daylight.
As for taunting the man, who knew anyone organized it? I've been doing randomly as I pass by for years....
