I have an idea, a simple and effective one. The best kind.


Backstory: I have been with Root Society since 2005 in different functions as well as touring with the domes and the giant tv screen from hell in defaultia.

the thing that always turns my stomach is the amount of trash, moop, shit whatever you want to call it, left behind by inconsiderate party goers. In miami after ultra, you could wade thru a foot of it like a pond of plastic and paper.

The big problem root society had was with moop (please, lets keep musical taste out of this argument, and for once concentrate on one thing, my little ADD comrades) and the fact that the road more traveled resulted in much more collateral moop from our guests.

we took away a whole 24 ft truck filled with it, VAST majority was from the domes and around the wall.

well here's the thing, i think with a minimal amount of effort, a pinch of creativity, and some cohesion on this ONE issue, it would result in a win win win win win situation.

I would like to put forth an idea for the Heads of the Large Sound Camps, hereafter known as HLSC to consider this simple proposition, especially on the 10 oclock stretch, which based on the lineups are going to be a holy thumpy shit show...

i personally love it...dont judge me because i sparkle.

i digress.

Op Temp, Osiris, Boom, Nexxus and all of those i may have forgot (we wont be there this year so somebody else can be top banana...*zing*) should ACTIVELY PROMOTE MOOPING...cmon, you're promoters, you know how to do this shit.

have your Dj's mention that if they dont pick up TWO pieces of moop each, NOBODY gets to dance...or some other threat, cajole, public service announcement, whatever it takes, but often enough, and with enough consistency among the camps to make it SHAMEFUL AND UNSPARKLY to do that moopy thing....

teach them.

teach them how to Dance Clean....fuck the whole dance safe bullshit, safety third.

seriously, inform your crowd how difficult it is to clean up on the week after they have gone home and actually slept in a bed and posted to facebook while you and your skeleton crew are picking up their fucking glo sticks.

explain to your crowd that the continued RED MAP status in those areas reflect badly on the "Dance/EDM/Big SOund/THUMpy/Whatever Community" as a whole, and the need to return to GREEN is essential to the sustainability of the groovy sounds on the playa or some other trite bullshit like that.

you get my point.


thru a little proactive chiding and group dynamics, we can make your guests, and you are hosts, AWARE of the LNT ethos.

it really is win win win win win too, less work at the end, better relations with the borg, or at least some meaningful leverage, and possibly a whole group of people who maybe wouldnt have thought about this whole idea, of radical self reliance and picking up after yer damn self suddenly a proponent and advocate for LNT, not only at the event, but out THERE as well..

please think about it, i am going to forward this to JM at osisris and SG at Op Temp and hope that this will be adopted as policy in some manner for them. I hope the other large sound camps will consider this as well.

This is a great idea. Say what you will about rave kids, but they certainly know how to listen to Dj's and performers.

I remember how effective Will I Am and Lil Jon's appeals to the crowd were at EDC 2010 when it was turning into a shit show. People really did listen. It actually gave me a lot of respect for Will I Am.

100% support mr simon for more through the week/day collecting of moop. Mystified as you on how it get's dropped. 1:10 camp participants to dancers spreading through the crowd to encourage cool behavior?

No idea how it will net out this year. But it's usually a privilege to camp with a LSC. In exchange, maybe there are shifts discouraging mooping music times and collecting it day times. Can you share for other sound camps how that works best? Maybe start a private LSC tips and ticks forum.
