I blew a tire on the MV trailer in Schurz last year, 7 AM Sat.; 4 circus-lookin' BM gals and no escort. The locals were VERY helpful, we were out of there in an hour!!! According to the folks who live there, it's the 'rent-a-cops' you need to watch out for. If your rig looks 'normal', you should be fine.

I can help with this as well. If you are heading up Rt. 95 there is a speedtrap about 1 hour north of Hawthorne. I got cited, but I was driving 87 MPH and had it coming. I have driven through Schurz no fewer than a dozen times and never have had any problems. But they will cite you if you speed! There are a number of fireworks stands on the south end of the town (an excellent place to get those skyrockets, morters, and jumbo shells) and I have seen the cops gather near there. But again, if you follow the law and don't do anything stupid, my personal experience is that you will have no problems at all.
Those reports are extreme though, and bear using caution.
We have had towns shut down for this behavior nearby and I never had a problem myself going through.
Sometimes it's luck.
The worst one around here is nearby and I try to avoid ever entering or spending money there.
Psychotic cops and judges.
Germantown, TN.
NEVER go there.
Some place like that can ruin your trip.

in the guide, they are basing thier opinion of Schurz on something that happened 4 years ago.
Just drive the posted limit and nothing will happen.
Don't stop to get fireworks either, unless you are on your way home.
That's just asking for it, and they are not allowed at BM without approval anyhow.

I've driven through Shurz dozens of times without any problems??? I was "warned" outside of Tonopah for speeding last Feb. (I guess two middle aged women and a teenager looked pretty innocent!gyre wrote:Usually it's money they are after.

In years past this little community has been very extreme in enforcing highway driving laws. This has been a well know piece of information for over 20 or 30 years, so I don't think things will change much.
You can bypass Schurz, Nv by turning leff onto the Yerrington bypass over to 95A they up through Silver Springs Nevada. You only drive through the town of Schurz when you go straight north towards Fallon.
This is the better route anyway. I lived in Silver Springs, Nv for a while back in the late 90's.
I have always found the Nevada Highway Patrol to be a very helpful group of law enforcement and not at all out to get us. But local cops might have a different agenda.
How you are dressed makes no difference to the LEO's out there. What they care about is, are you driving properly, that is the one thing that will get you stopped. As you drive through these small towns. SHOW RESPECT!!n slow way the fuck down, way down, go a below the speed limit. Turn the music down, tell your passengers to sit still for the two or three minutes it will take to get through the town. Watch the speed limit signs they will slow you down from 65 to 45 to 25 and if the sign is missing you are fucked. Look around, stay aware of where you are. see ya at brc.

Hawthorne to Schurz is only 34 miles?? Fallon is 66 miles from Hawthorne. so, if you were going over 85 miles an hour you would have been approaching Hazen, Nv (interesting little group of buildings) (or past Fallon at least) 1 hour after leaving Hawthorne. Its about 100 miles from Hawthorne to Fernley. Using either route 95 or 95ADr. Pyro wrote:I can help with this as well. Unless you took the bypass, then would the trap have been around Yerrington??

Ponytails and the like, no problem, I was going along more of the lines of 'be covered up' until you get to the playa. I agree most NHP are pretty cool. Tribal police can go either way, I've had bad and good experiences there. I wonder if NHP would ask you to "Please step out of the car" if you weren't wearing pants?wedeliver wrote: I have always found the Nevada Highway Patrol to be a very helpful group of law enforcement and not at all out to get us. If you're gonna be doing any driving at night, and your vehicle even remotely looks like it's playa bound, before leaving, make sure all the requiered lights are working, right down to the licence plate light(s). Some LEOs have a thing about certain lights not in operation on vehicles. On Thursday night on my way home from work, I got stopped by by the Storey County S.O. for the right taillight being out on my Jetta. Got off with a verbal warning. I replaced the bulb and also replaced the licence plate socket on my p/u that I'll be taking this year, just to reduse the chance of any P.C.

Wow, this was dug up from the dregs! You'll be fine in Schurz, just do the posted speed limits and by all means, keep your pants on until you hit the playa!!casacha101 wrote:***HELP NEEDED****

No problem with Schurz. Like the others have said, watch your speed and you'll be fine.
