I'm mostly with Junglesmacks on this. I am going to make a vailiant attempt to hit the M&G, but in the default world, EVERYTHING revolves around time...I'm in the media biz. What time is this happening, what time is that...and down to the second...even half of a second is meaningful. Last year, when we arrived in our camp, I took off my watch, turned off my phone, and didn't look until we were back on the interstate. It was one of the most liberating and refreshing things I have ever done.

On a side note.. this year I am going to try and make a few choice events/DJ sightings just for fun. I've been compiling a list for a few months now of planned dates/times/camps, and will keep a list out there and see what happens. If I remember.. if not.. I don't. I'm going to experiment with trying though this year just for fun..

Just.. for.. fun.. :D

And I totally agree with you. Whatever works to make your burn the best it can be, without interfering with someone else's burn, is the only way to go. My quest at Burning Man is to become less judgmental; trying to become less responsible too would just blow my mind!

Absofuckinglutely

Within reason. I toss schedules, cell phones, social commitments, cares/stresses/worries and maybe a few brain cells to the wind. If you want to live your life at BRC as a slave to all of the above as you do in defaultia, be my guest.. your prerogative as is mine. You don't have to "buy" jack shit. :D

OK, so I've finally decided what I'll be bringing to the M&G. First, either a gallon or a five quart tub of vanilla ice cream (depending on what's available at the Super Walmart or Sam's Club when we do our food shopping in Carson City and Reno) (this is to go with those fresh baked chocolate chip cookies someone is bringing) and Steak Fajitas with flour tortillas and shredded cheese and sour cream for toppings. I can put all of this in my bike panniers and transport it with no problem. Plus, this should be better for sharing too.

I tend to be a laissez-faire kind of guy even in the default world, and I like to pick and choose which responsibilities I abdicate. For the first time, this year I will be volunteering at gate and exodus. Absolutely honoring those commitments is a responsibility I will not abdicate. But operating under "playa time" can be very liberating. It lets you follow your subconscious. It lets you follow some invisible magnetic pull.

Yup, when I started volunteering, I started being much more conscious of time out there.

Okay, I decided. I made some frozen slush with fruit juice/fruits - it goes really well when mixed with Asti or sprite. I think I will bring that, and some bottles of Asti. I am excited to meet/see people in a couple of weeks!
I'd rather hit the books.

Curious how you're going to keep ice cream all week? Dry ice cooler?

Our camp serves root beer floats, remember? We bring a chest freezer and a chest refrigerator we converted from a freezer using a temperature control switch I posted about somewhere else here.

I abdicate as much responsibility on the playa as I possibly can. That said, I get 'er done when it comes to art projects and events I may have a many-months-long commitment to, but beyond that I'm fairly useless. It probably doesn't help that my circadian clock doesn't run on a normal 24-hour cycle, and the playa affords the luxury to stay awake and go out and do things until I'm tired, and sleep until I'm rested, time of day be damned. Don't think of it as an excuse though (I take full responsibility for my irresponsibility), it's just an explanation.

People choose whether or not being on time is important to them. If it is important, they work out ways to make it happen. Saying, "I'll be there if playa time permits" is a statement that "my need to be able to follow the shiny is more important to me than making it to this event". Which is fine. It's a choice, and one I respect. I have less respect for people who haplessly make no choice, but whine about the results. Which doesn't really apply to anyone here.
