Random "Best of" contributions
As one new to this forum and having never actually been to a Burning Man event, I'd like it if others would be willing to share any sort of "Best of" posts be it pictures, stories/tales/experiences, special encounters, musical magic, costume craziness, camps, transportation, problem and help stories, etc.
I'll be poking around throughout the forum looking for differnet nuggets and tid-bits. Please feel free to suggest favorite forum links.
I'd also be interested in learning of revered "elders" (people with a long and/or coninuous history with the event). Also with later arrivals who just took to it fairly quickly and now are an integral part of the BM community.
Those with political or specialty blogs are welcome to add links here (if that's allowed). I'm interested in the different activist contributions and would be greatly curious as to the range of political views (in the way that Johnny Ramone was a staunch Republican)
I hope this thread gets a lot of activity and is useful to other n00bs.
Warm regards to all.

Hopefully one that would be fairly painless to contributers.

Hey Lance,
There are lots of great threads with actual playa stories. The main site has a lot of stuff. ePlaya does too, but it takes some digging. Here are two links from the main site to get you started:
http://www.burningman.com/blackrockcity ... index.html
http://blog.burningman.com/tales-from-t ... hronicity/
It's crunch time as far as packing goes, so a lot of people are not spending much time online right now, but after the Burn there will be an explosion of stories. "Tell me a story" is just us making stuff up.

Thx Savannnah,
I imagine that the focus for those going is anything other than being online much. In looking for something to show some friends I want to go with me I found Phil Steele's "Burn Monkey" page.
There's some fantistic pics there and it has its own "Best of" section.
It's nice to get a feel for what has gone down in the past as well as get me hyped for the upcoming ones.

Re: Random "Best of" contributions
I would like to add this JWR article to the "Best of" pile as the smug dismissal encapsulates perfectly someone who doesn't get it and for whom freedom is a frightening thing. It further reinforces the idea of a mate as property.
from: What I Saw at Burning Man
from: What I Saw at Burning Man
Having spent the better part of a week in the desert among naked people, I have come to several conclusions. One, perhaps the ugliest thing in the world is a naked man riding a bicycle. Two, any nudist who claims not to be an exhibitionist is just a lying exhibitionist. Three, and most important, public nudity strips loveliness of any love. As Othello says of Desdemona, "She has eyes, and chose me." Laying one's beauty down in the public square makes impossible such a choice; it is to prefer the eyes of many and to offer one's beauty to all in common. Thus does the beloved rob the lover of his treasure; once it is theirs, it is his no more.

It reminded of a concert review done by someone that can't stand the band in the first place.

Or yet another event detractor who has no valid concerns yet must babble on. (No, I'm nothing like that!) Yo, dude--just because the idea of your love going nude devalues it, doesn't make that universal or anything. Ask 20 people and you'll end up with at least 23 opinions over a broad range of possible values.
Sheesh!
Sheesh!

I saw foxfur's site and said for him to post this, and then thought, fuck it, that's my job. It deserves to be here as it is exactly the type of commentary I was fishing for. I should be so lucky as to document my own baby burn as well -
