Not being a fan of Dub Step I have determined that I will find the worst dub step possible being played on playa and dance what is left of my ass off to it. I'm going to own it! Then having done that I'll move on.

I want to see that crazy flaming stringed percussion show that I saw in 04. That was one of the most amazing unique things I have ever seen. I would love to see that again although like anything the second time is not as mind blowing as the first.

Wow Dougly. That was profound.Ugly Dougly wrote:The music should be like the art: Stunning ear candy that I have never heard before, a creation that I have never even imagined even could exist, music that subverts all my assumptions, and changes my life forever. Like the art, something that is born on the playa and is as ephemeral as the wooden arms of the Man, and is altogether free of commodification. No, not techno.
Else, silence.

Real humans playing real earth instruments. Anything I've never heard (seen) before.
The impromptu jams that I've come across on some of the back streets are some of the best.

The earth harp is the worlds largest stringed instrument. It was originally strung across a valley, so the earth itself acted sort of like the sound box on a guitar- the earth was strung and played! The sound is more like that of colossal Tibetan singing bowls than a harp or other stringed instrument. From what I understand, the temple will become part of the instrument this year on the playa. Last burn I went to, I ventured over to 2:00. It seemed like the end of the world there; the open playa was right there, without fanfare and without Esplanade traffic. What a great place for a unique camp, like a Chill Dome or something, together with a small cafe for viewing the playa scenery. It would be a good place for some chillout, downtempo, fusion, lounge music, as long as there was no really loud sound camp nearby.
Maybe next year.

That's the sort of weird/cool stuff we expect from the playa! Kudos!Taralynnray wrote:The earth harp is the worlds largest stringed instrument. Re: What Music Do You Want To See @ the Burn??
I want to hear it all in a big mash up mid playa making a sound I cant even try to type.
But to be pickier, less dubstep would be nice (not none, just less) and more bands like Albino, March Fourth, Hamsa Lila, Mutaytor, Lost at Last, the Mermen, Mojo Green....PLAYA inspired/created bands that kick ass!
I can see where it's too much for full bands to commit to Burning Man. The landscape asks for sound systems and electronics.....Thats why Brass Bands work, too. Brass instruments and drums cut thru the dust. Sometimes live music gets drowned out out there. Thats why you gotta go to the Burbs to find more of it. When it does happen, it is still awesome but there are a lot more variables that make it really difficult.
I like hearing Disc Jockeys out there. The ones who are just playing from their collection on loud systems. Thats fun enough for me in BRC. There is so much going on, its almost like all my fav live bands would totally distract me from US and OUR CITY. I go to Music festivals All year for live music.
Just hearing the hits on the loud speakers is perfect. At GlitterCamp Glitterbox every year, my friend Geo spins 80s goth and it always makes me super happy. I know, oxymoron!

Re: What Music Do You Want To See @ the Burn??
I want to HEAR all the types of music that makes me want to dance (and that's alot). Not looking for the audience experience on my first burn (or any future ones for that matter), so I plan on dancing as much as I can. Dubstep is not as creative to me, but I will make due with whatever is gifted to me.

Re: What Music Do You Want To See @ the Burn??
As many said, I definitely could go without hearing dubstep ever again.
On another note, I experienced DJs Wolf+Lamb last year on the Robot Heart art car, the night of the Burn, and it was incredible. The sounds and music I heard were unlike anything I've heard before. Perhaps there were additives to the equation however I cannot wait to seek them out again!
I also enjoy really powerful hit songs from all decades past, that have a lot of passion, soul, and/or an incredible message. It's a GREAT moment on playa when you're feeling soooo much emotion over something, and in the distance or 20 feet away you hear a song playing that is like the perfect soundtrack song for the moment, and it can be so overwhelming. In a good way of course.
And bring on the PSYTRANCE!!!
