video camera on the playa
So I'm thinking of bringing a video camera with me this year. It's on older model panasonic mini dv camera. Can anyone with experience using video cameras on the playa tell me if it's worth it and what kind of care to take? Will mini dv cassettes withstand the heat? What should I be worried about?

Read the "Cameras and Multimedia" guidelines before you wory about if it will live. but really, no camera captures the playa. it is a First person enviroment. (some times 4th person omnipresent)

Used on of those many years ago, it worked fine, no issues whatsoever.

Mini DV was used to make this film :
at the end of the first chapter, you can see a glitch that happens. that is from playa dust. magnetic tape and playa dust don't like each other. Keep your tapes sealed, and always record a bit of blank footage at the beginning, and end, to protect your footage.
have fun. if your camera is of any kind of size, it's like a white elephant, everyone knows your there.

All video requires a signed agreement with the Org and a tag on the camera. See the media guidelines. BTW - doesn't matter if you are professional or not, still gotta register.

Read again, ALL video cameras still require a tag.
In fact so do pretty much ALL still cameras also, if they are capable of recording even a few seconds of video( and what cameras don't nowadays?)

Conflicting information -

Is this "Personal Use Agreement" form available online somewhere? Can we print one out and fill it in prior to arrival or this all done with playa dust underfoot?vivid2012 wrote:HandJamMasterC wrote:Conflicting information -

Re: video camera on the playa
Many new digital still cameras can now take HD movies. If teh BMOrg is still differentiating between still camera and video, then they got some catching up to do.HandJamMasterC wrote:Conflicting information -
