my name is Nate and I have a problem(s)
Hello.
I started out my last post with something like this "I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place because I'm on my phone and blah blah blah" I shall again apologize for posting carelessly. Anyhow, I am on my porch listening to the bugs and smokin' a cigarette drinking a cup of joe. The grass is making my legs itch and a rabbit is perched on a little dirt mound, hoping I do not see him. Its nice out. Now I return to my room. My mother just came in and she is going through my books saying "oh robert lewis Stevenson and blah blah blah" I'm trying to remember if that's the book I hid my dimebag in, wait.... Nope, that was "the complete poems and stories of edgar allan poe" whew, that was close. (Love you mum) Anyway, burning man is less than a week away, and I do not have a car to get me there, so I've been hunting craigslist like a mad cat who just sniffed some catnip. Last night I quit my job, I have money saved up to travel around america, I plan to kick off my travels with burning man. Ill be driving from tulsa oklahoma as I just moved here a year ago to work and save money. Now, I am in need of advice (or criticism which is a specialty which we have all been apart of). Anyway, if anyone wants to help me find a car, go to craigslist my budget is five grand or something and send me a link of what you... No I'm only kidding, you don't have to do that. I just ask you to keep me in your prayers in return for you to be in mine. (Amen? Yes, amen...) Damn, it is a wonderful night, purely magical! The scent of my freshly baked scones, the dim kerosene lamp flickering on my dresser, the low hum of the earth breathing comforting me like a child in his mothers womb, my kitten scratching at my door like a kitten normally does, me; thinking of a man I met who taught me more than anyone ever has, with his simple words, he once said in his chinese accent "no man, you can do anything, me? I'm a soft guy, I'm the guy alone at night drinking beer on my couch watching tv" I'll never forget him, he told me allot about buddha and how he stayed at a temple for a whole year after living a wild life in san Francisco. He now won't touch liquor, but chooses to keep himself clean. What are the chances of me ever seeing him again? I can't say... I am thinking I came on this to say something of importance to my existence at burning man, yet that feeling is dwindling, so any tips, advice or silence is welcome.

No prob. You can also edit your post to add in those paragraphs. It might attract more readers if you have them, because I was inclined to just skip over the entire message.bittersweettome wrote:Haha, thank you my friend, I'd like to blame it on mj, but ill admit, I'm very lazy right now.BBadger wrote:Paragraphs would be a great start.

Hmm I wonder if I can find a ticket in time! Just load up food and water too? Enough room on the bus? Sounds swell mate.

Re: my name is Nate and I have a problem(s)
I have seen taxis entering BRC to drop off campers. Hire a limo if you can raise the money in time or if you're desperate and resourceful enough, steal a car and drive yourself in to the event. As far as a ticket, the scalpers are everywhere this year. Be sure to have a ticket BEFORE you head out, since they are not on sale at the gate, and you will just end up driving back home if you do.
Oh, WELCOME!

Re: my name is Nate and I have a problem(s)
Several years ago, one of our campers was deposited from a taxi....
She'd arranged for her tent to be set up, when she arrived...
disappeared into the tent for 10 minutes, exited in a tutu and work gloves, with fully loaded workbelt;
commenced with dome erection... awesome!!!

Re: my name is Nate and I have a problem(s)
There is rideshare on eplaya.
You don't really have time to shop for a car now.
First decide your needs.
Then consider available choices.
Is camping space and luggage a priority or mileage?
Remember to consider maintenance cost, which most people ignore.
Cars vary wildly in this area.
It's possible to have a fairly expensive high performance car, that is cheap to repair if you have to.
A luxury car might be cheap to repair after a crash, because used bodies are easily obtained.
Think it through.

Re: my name is Nate and I have a problem(s)
A couple years ago, there was a used stretch limo for sale on one of the used car lots. We'd drive by and make elaborate plans for arriving at the Gate with a chauffeur in uniform, champagne and prom dresses. A nice pipe dream, yes?

Thanks so much for spoon feeding me everyone! I'm going to look at a honda odyssey van tonight, I just hope I can get it insured and all that jazz in time (as you see I'm not very experienced) if that doesn't work ill try ride share. or maybe stay home this year and plan for next.

Hi Nate;
I enjoyed your post for esoteric reasons that I won't go in to here. You have a ticket then...Splendid!. I would advise you to buy the Honda Odyssey if it has less than 190,000 miles on it and does not have any obvious faults that would cause big headaches. Yes, some would argue that you are taking a chance; but with a Honda Odyssey with less than 200K on it you have a good odds on getting a very relaible vehicle with plenty of room to haul things and to sleep in. It sounds like having a van to sleep in will also be a big plus for your travels.
Pack your van with Plenty of water and food. Look for a canopy or reflective material to put over the roof and windows of said van. If you do this, you can use it to sleep in on the playa, although you will still undoubtedly only be able to sleep in it at night.
Best of Luck! May your travels bring you great wisdom and the ability to write deeply satisfying and properly composed verbiage on message boards.

It doesn't look like there are any Oklahoma posts on the rideshare board, but you could try contacting the OK Regional group and see if anyone has space:
