Sending gear/supplies to the playa in another vehicle?
There is an important policy change this year that could have an impact on anyone sending equipment or supplies to the playa in another vehicle.
The stowaway policy is changing. In the past, there were lectures, warnings, and time spent in the penalty box at the gate. This year, any vehicle found to have a stowaway on board will have tickets confiscated from ALL passengers, the vehicle will be denied entry (so a campmate/friend in another vehicle in your caravan can't drive to your campsite to unload), and everyone on board will be sent home.
Make sure that whoever is going to be hauling that shade structure/art car/tent/food/sculpture/dome/bar for you understands that, and is dependable enough not to put all your shit in jeopardy by being dumb enough to try and sneak someone onto the playa. Drivers, make sure all your passengers either have tickets in hand or will call info before you head to BRC.
It's a harsh policy, but a necessary one IMO. With no tickets at the gate, anyone turned away would either end up lingering and trying to sneak across under cover of darkness (sure it'd be fun for the perimeter guys), they'd be that negative stereotype dirty hippy vagrant hanging around Gerlach all week, or they'd be that person that potentially died of exposure/dehydration trying to walk home in the desert.

I think it's a great policy, should have been implemented a long time ago. Anybody that aides and abets someone commit a crime is as guilty as the person committing the crime.

Agreed, there should be consequences.

What he's pointing out is that if you're not in that car with the stowaway and don't know about it, but you gear is in there, you're still screwed.jkisha wrote:I think it's a great policy, should have been implemented a long time ago. It's a question of trust, Badger. Have that talk with your potential driver, if you don't feel that he/she will follow the rules and there's a chance your stuff won't make it to the playa because of their bad behavior, find another way of getting your stuff to and from the playa.

Makes me thankful I have the means to get myself out there.

I didn't mean it like "trust no one" so much as "work with quality people" issue. Our camp is self-contained (though some of us are hauling things for others), but I like to think there are plenty of good people out there in everybody's circles.

I'm having flashbacks of I Love Lucy's border crossing in Tiajuana.

Hello Everyone!
My name Will Tordella. I am new to burning Man.
I am trying to transport a large shade structure to burning man and our truck rental fell through.
We are coming from Los Angeles.
It is 16 feet high, made of wood and comes in pieces.
I am trying find anyone who might be able to help.
We have around $750 dollars to get it to the burn.
My number is 424-202-1955
I would appreciate any help I could get!
Thanks!

What happens with the confiscated tickets?
Just out of curiosity.
