They are scheduled for midnight, and the call is not the llc's. Nevada Highway Patrol is the deciding voice.

Or,

But please feel free to come early though, so that you'll be D-lotted or sent back to Reno to shorten the line come midnight.

If you hang around Gerlach from 6pm to midnight you could be cited for Loitering
by numerous officers in the area.

Some people might construe my behavior as being such a true burner that I'm trying to get out ahead of a problem that would make the event look bad with entities it must work with to exist.

But, no. I'm not that kind of burner at all.

Too early and you get stuck in D lot. In 2010 they opened up a few hours early, but there is no guarantee that history will repeat.

In other words, if you try to come in early you might be extra delayed, or you might be let in early, or it might make no difference. Place your bets.

I personally doubt gates will open at 6...
Unless a bunch of dip shits show up early, and jam the highway then Highway Patrol and BLM will say open the gates early. Which will then jeopardize the event, especially considering that there is no permit for 2012 or any other future year yet.

If the 2012 permit does not get approved, I'm blaming the people that showed up early, just because gates opened early last year, and fucked it all up!

On a happier note!

Which was actually pretty cool, but Wal-Mart might sick the cops this time around as I was there after most of the people left and there were literally a bunch of shopping carts FULL of garbage and bottles all over the parking lot. Partying is cool, leaving your shit behind for someone else to clean up is fucking lame. I'm not saying anyone here did it, but if everyone just made the effort to be considerate and not such an ass we could do things like this more often in more places.

I'm basically a party vegetable so the first part of the statement in red doesn't fly for me, but the second part applies to all of us--on the way to the playa, on the playa and on our way back home. This includes packing your garbage poorly so that it flies off your truck and onto open rangeland, and piling up bags and bags of garbage next to a full dumpster, figuring it's good enough.

And it's good behavior the rest of the year as well. Remember that people picking up after you are underpaid and doing stoop labor. You autta be ashamed of yourself for not making a very good effort indeed.

If you've got a phone that can access Twitter, follow the official Burning Man account and go hang out in Reno. If any kind of early opening of the gate happens, that's where it will be announced. Keep your eyes on Twitter, and *if* something gets announced, hop in your vehicle and head on out (safely and within the speed limit, of course.... local law enforcement really loves to bust people speeding through their little towns).

Pro tip: make sure your driver(s) aren't drinking while you're waiting in Reno. There'll be plenty of time for revelry when your vehicle arrives at your campsite.

I always wonder if there's going to be a time where Gate gets so annoyed with the early arrivals that they just keep them corralled in D Lot until sunrise. I'm sure BLM could find some reason for it to be legal.

Not that I heard that or anything...

I am trying to figure out the timing to arrive at camp around 5am so I can start setting up my pyramid at dawn, before it is too hot and the wind picks up. What time should I leave Reno? Midnight? 2am?

To arrive at 5am Monday, you better leave at 10pm from Reno. Gate line is all of 5 hours at 12:01am if not more.

Last year I hit Gerlach around 12:45 and if I remember correctly was just hitting camp when the sun came up. Although it has been different every year, so planning to get in right at sunrise is going to be pretty tricky.
