Camping Locations

Post by flubbilynumpkins » Sun Aug 15, 2004 6:46 pm

Ok, so i am a virgin burner, coming by myself, without a place to stay. I was originally looking volunteering and staying with the lamplighters, but I seem to have volunteered a little too late (just a few days ago) and probably will not now.

So, I've been thinking of just doing the walk-in camping thing, but I read that it really is walk-in, and that I will have to park my car and carry everything in. It's do-able, but I assuming it won't be too short of a walk, and I am not looking forward to ferrying a car-load of stuff.

Can I find another spot on the playa, not occupied by a theme camp, and set up there? With only a car and a shade structure (small, maybe 16 by 10) I won't be taking up too much space. Or will this be looked down upon as space that should be allotted to larger groups?

So, I suppose I am asking everyone's opinions on where to camp. Were any of you in this situtation before, what worked? What didn't?

I appreciate any feed-back on this, I'm sure I'll be fine however I end up camping. Thanks y'all

depending on which day you get there, there is always a spot for someone with a car to set up next to thier car. The later in the week though the farther from the man you will have to camp. But there is no worry that if you showed up on monday or tuesday that you would find a large assortment of camping spots where you could park your car.

There are always plenty of spaces to camp on the back streets (this year, Neptune to Sedna). You won't be in the middle of the action, but the trade-off is lots of elbow room and as much peace and quiet as you'll get out there.

Perfect. I plan on arriving monday, so it's good to hear I can camp somewhere closer to the action with my car.

Sitting here looking at my shade structure beginning to take form in the backyard, looking forward to this :)

Thank you for the info Diane and headquarters!
