Riding my bike from Los Angeles to Burning man
Riding my bike from Los Angeles to Burning man
So last year I was talking to people who rode there bikes from all over to Burning man, just wondering if anyones done this from L.A. and what a good route might be?
Thanks!

The keyword "swerve" is the ticket for finding threads about bike riding to BM, as that is what may will be doing to go around the road hazards bicyclists along the way.
here is the most recent debate on the topic.

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

I've always wanted to ride up 395, but it's going to be damn hot in August. I don't think the other side of the mountains would be much nicer either. Like everyone else has/will say, the last 60 miles is very unsafe for cyclists, at least if you're coming in on monday. I don't know what it's like before the event.

There are a fair amount of people up before Sunday evening. Think about Gate and Greeters and Big Theme Camps and the Cafe and First Camp and DPW and Rangers and ESD and Placed Art and there's a fair amount of traffic on the road. It's not a total fill of the road...
You know, I've been in early and I've been in late. I've never been in on Monday morning. But I've not really driven that road and said to myself, hm...there's room for a bike here.
Do you think I could sit in Gerlach with a cup and a sign that reads
I'd get kicked out...

Another idea is to ride to Reno/Fernley/Gerlach/Etc. and then find a ride the rest of the way. Getting yourself to one of the ride share meeting spots would probably yield good results. Be prepared to disassemble your bicycle if someone offers a ride.
It's pointless to walk when it's past time to run.

Yeah, it's been talked about. But have you been on that road? Any time around BM? Near BRC? People do it every year and I can't over state that it very well may be a hazard not only to you but others who have to, yes, swerve around you into the oncoming lane when you suddenly appear, and there is no shoulder. Or the traffic jam you create while people wait to go around you. 'Cause there's always someone in that line that doesn't know why the line slowed down and wants to pass-- I don't know, do what you want, I'll come in from the north...

I think that riding a bike to the Burn is pretty selfish. SOMEBODY is going to have to cary all your water food and STUFF.
