Streaming BMIR on Android?

Post by jsgarvin » Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:31 pm

The August 18th issue of JRS provided a link to stream BMIR on mobile devices ( http://bmir-ice.streamguys.com/live.m3u ). However, when trying that on my Droid, I get an error saying "Download Unsuccessful. Unable to determine item size." I get the same error when I click the "Listen Now" link on the bmir.org website from my Droid.

Has anybody else gotten the streaming BMIR to work on an Android device? Is there a particular app to use? Everything I've tried comes with a built-it set of "stations" and doesn't allow input of a custom stream URL.

I'm on an original Motorola Droid running Android 2.2.2. (from what I've read, Android started supporting streaming natively with version. 2.2.0)

Any help is appreciated. I'm hoping to listen to BMIR on the drive home next weekend, at least through those areas where cell service is available.

Thank you very much for the eloquent and insightful suggestion, Token.

In case the last sentence in my original post was unclear to everyone else, my interest is in streaming BMIR to the phone while traveling to the playa, not using the phone while on the playa.

I would prefer to use the classic method of converting the BMIR radio waves into sound waves, but unfortunately my car radio receiver is unable to differentiate the BMIR signal from the cosmic microwave background radiation from hundreds of miles away. Thus, until I get closer to BRC, I would instead like to try to use one of these new fangled talky gizmos that "real burners", such as Token, find so awfully scary.

works on my WebOS just fine.

works on the iPhone fine.

can you stream other sites that use the same format. Search and try.

you could try downloading a media player app of some kind.
