One Item for BM a Day (2010-2012)
Re: One Item for BM a Day
I went to the veteran's standown in Marysville today. Got my head shaved with a straight razor, kept my VanDyke. Picked up some boots ,kicks ,short pants, and shirts. Wool socks, canteen cup, wool blanket, sleeping bag in stuffsack, kit bag, patrol bag, laundry bag, and drysack. Toilatries, tissue, TP, wetwipes, soap, toothbrush and paste, waterbottle, shampoo, sanitizer, combs, pen and pencils...Stopped by the FoodMaxx and got 3 cases of Pepsi, a big case of Bud, and some snacks... rolling on Sunday night, getting to Nevada at o-dark thirty Monday...Fueling and final packing af Geo tomorrow and Saturday, resting Sunday before drive. I'm taking less this year, no trailer. Using carport, two room tent, and small closet tents.
Taking a deep breath before the plunge, respects to all those on the trail allready. Hats off to the volunteers already on the Playa getting things ready. Ready,ready,ready...

This goddamn monkey hut is gonna kill me. Todayi have to set it up, take it down and pack it in the frigging car ALL BY MYSELF coz the beau is working. I hope to hell he drives most of the 2300 miles to get there coz I've planned and packed for 3 months and when asked him yesterday if he read the survival guide he said "most of it". And when I asked about the first timers stuff he said he'd have time to read it on the way. He's so fucking lucky he's got me to save his ass if needed. Damn virgin. Maybe this should have gone in the "fuck" thread but I'm thinking these last few hours all the posts here will be last minute "fuck" stuff.

Packed everything.
Decided to let go of some things on the to-do list.

Started covering the ponies. And I've got five boxes to fill up. A few I haven't even figured out what they are about!

Finally sewed a strap onto my "good times" floppy red hat so I don't lose it if (who am I kidding... when) the wind kicks up.
Noticed that my goggles have vents and a couple other areas where dust could easily get in. Any recommendations on what's best to seal those up? I was thinking about just grabbing a small tube of black bathroom caulk and sealing them on the inside.

So I have been lurking, reading this thread for the last month or so.
Anyway, now that BM 2011 is over, I thought now would be a good time to stop lurking and start posting! 2012 will be my virgin burn, and so far I've started saving money, and (with a lot of help from this thread!) made a lonnnng packing list!
My one thing for today is a trip to the local thrift store, and posting here!
Also, I was curious how all of your stuff (tents, shade structures, costumes, etc) turned out

Burning Man isn't about the stuff you see when you get there ....it's about the people that brought that stuff there

Fear not, Milayna, there will be lots of talk about what worked and what didn't . . . it'll emerge here and there as people decompress, get caught up on sleep, and start to get their stuff put away . . . before becoming a full-on torrential rainstorm of facts.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
When I was out at Burning Skies waiting to go up with the skydivers on Saturday, Figjam invited me over (he was across the street and heard my name called) to see his little pleasure palace. I must say I was impressed. He can get it arctic-cold if he so chose to do so. I'm just surprised he didn't have a legion of minions hanging around abiding by his very wish. Wait a second, that's what I was asked over there for. Doh!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I do have to say that I was amazed more than a few times while riding through the city to see the Figjam swamp cooler a-la Home Depot bucket totally piped straight into the side of hexayurts. I saw one that literally had 4 of them ducted straight into each wall of the yurt. Classic circle cut outs and all.
Bravo, Figgy. Bravo..
