Holy Shit! It's full of spam!
Ok, 2 pages of new topics full of spam, didn't waste my time perusing the others. I know most if not all of the Mods are still in full on dust mode, but come on, we really need a solution to all of this spamming. What was in place with the old eplaya that prevented it and why can't we re-implement it for this version????
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

Saily, there was a challenge question. You to find a paragraph in the TOS and pick out a specific word.
I don't know what's keeping that from being re-implemented.

I just feel sorry for the mods that are going to have to burn the midnight oil to delete all this crap. It even borrowed down into the past years forums.
*ugh*
Maybe the mods will consider temporary deputization of some of the friendly locals and grant them the right to delete threads... (probably too big a step to be taken.)

In a weird way, consider yourself lucky - we actually had some decent coverage during the event, with a few of us taking some turns at spam-whackery from the playa (though I must say, it pained me to be connecting to the internet from BRC).
What we used to have back then was called "the olden days" when the spammers weren't so numerous and so aggressive. Personally, I believe we're reaching the point where the PHPBBS platform has outlived its usefulness (the exploits and liabilities outweigh its strengths). There are a few back-end things we'll be working on (now that folks are getting back from the burn) to improve security, plus we've beefed up moderator coverage to help keep things as clean as possible.

Trilo has the ability to whack spam posts en masse, unlike the lowly regular mods who whack one at a time.

I assure you that we're spam-whacking away; sometimes before it's seen (gratifying!) . . . sometimes not.
Thanks for your patience.

The site's also been shuddering and sputtering at the sheer masses of junk dropped upon it. There were some problems with bulk deletion earlier today, I think I've managed to reclaim the Regionals & Events board though

I am so glad that some fine person has taken a weed whacker to the mess.
