Experimental music on the playa?

Post by kovrov » Fri Jul 16, 2004 12:48 pm

Dear fellow burners,

I am a huge fan of experimental electronic music, love to listen to it and share it as DJ. Unfortunately, finding venues to play & hear this stuff is not that easy. I've seen some small soundstages dedicated to IDM and related genres on the playa before, but I couldn't find very much last year for some reason. Any camps out there this year for people who are into listening to things like... Monolake, Autechre, Crunch, Lusine icl, Felix Kubin, Matmos, etc, etc, etc. Anybody needs a DJ with a tendency to play STRANGE electronic music? I mean, the way I figure, if not in BRC, then where. Please drop me a line. :)

Also, check out our sound installation this year:

:(

Well, due to overwhelming response, I shall sink into despair... erm, keep looking. If I weren't involved in a project already, I would consider organizing a soundstage like this... Maybe next year :)

Three days ain't a long time to wait. I now I love IDM and experimental, unfortunately I can't offer you a venue to spin.

Good luck in your search, and if you find a space be sure and let us all know.

And don't forget that the folks here comprise only a slice of the folks you'll find in the desert. I say come prepared and you will probably find yourself a venue.

My roommate works pt-time for Asphodel in SF, who promoted a Matmos show here a couple of weeks ago. I didn't make it but heard it was terrific.

Have you heard of a Japanese artist named Otomo? He recorded at our house last year. Incredibly strange, dissonant industrial - but with a clear sense of poetry. Apparently he recorded a mellower set of prettily atmospheric stuff after the noisy bits chased me out of the house (he had to play really loud because they were filming).

Anyway, you might want to start checking the Themecamps listings on the main site for like-minded camps.

Hi guys, I'm a computer musician, would like to connect with other musicians, and would like to show my stuff to any DJ's or others who might be interested. I'll have my latest CD at the Playa, but not a computer. I'll email mp3s to anybody who asks.

zzzzzzz...

There have been rumours of a Zoviet France & friends performance this year, although exactly where I cannot remember...
Think I heard it on tribe.net or perhaps another forum...

Check ZF related sites for more info.
