Camp Envy...shout outs
Greetings all.
For those of us who missed the event yet didn't...those of us who were fortunate enough to watch via the live cam ustream...we enjoyed Burning Man as much as possible...here is hoping that some of my fellow Camp Envy members are here!
I had to take an alternate name on Ustream...atomicraycafe
Anyone else out there?

I saw the Horse burn as well as the Temple but I missed the Man because I was out getting some.

Re: Camp Envy...shout outs
Prior to this year, my first year "off" in five years, I wondered if I would end up watching the stream endlessly.
Well, I didn't watch it endlessly but I'm sure I logged quite a few hours. Really enjoyed the chats, too. And the time the CE folks on-playa got in front of the camera and danced and sent a message to us was really sweet. I wonder if Stacy McGuire's boyfriend ended up being faithful or not.

I got to watch the Man burn with some fellow Burn 2.0'ers! It was amazing...can't wait to be there for real next year! I also watched the fire dancers for a good long while.
Re: Camp Envy...shout outs
Someone made a facebook page for Camp Envy btw. =) http://www.facebook.com/pages/Burning-M ... 0465711489
Also, I mentioned in chat that I'd hold up a shout out sign in front of the cam when I got to the playa. Not sure if anyone saw but here are the pics.

(aka Figgy of the playa)
Makes me have warm fuzzies all over that so many had a chance to take advantage of the cam feeds and still be able to experience BM this year, especially the various burns.
To make this possible, some people put in many hours to ensure things work. Too many to list here, but will do my best to create a list. It is not just Camp Envy, but folks from the media pool and their talent that allows you to watch without the dust - unless you provided your own.
Hyper John is one of those people. He tests and retests, and then physically does installation so that the world can sneak a peak into BRC.
A shout out to Hyper John is very worth while.
A special thanks to Ustream for carrying the live footage.
This is a group effort, and will make sure that those whom donated time and talent, get mentioned here.
And if YOU enjoyed what you saw - know that Camp Envy met, and started by a group of nutters watching, and this year we met on playa for the first time. We have every intention of being an active force on the playa for years to come.
Thanks to ALL whom make BRC possible.
Hope to see many nutters on playa next year.
Peace.

Re: Camp Envy...shout outs
Well that was the week that was and a good one at that, I can only thank all of the people that were involved, and that did such a great job of providing us the campers at home that missed the playa and the art and the party and the Man and the temple, and the core, and the dust and, and ,and needless to say this was one of the most awesome pieces of gifting that could happen to all of us in Camp Envy and we loved it. I've been to the playa 3 times for the Man and way before then I actually learned to drive there when I was 6-7 yrs old my family lived at Lake Tahoe and we would go camping there and got to sit on my father's lap and drive the pickup truck and so I love Black Rock City completely. There is so much to say and never enough time to say it all, but the other campers in Envy were sure fun and seeing them out there on the playa makes it so much more personal. I'll close for now and enjoy all of the pics and videos coming out now that most are home now, and will do my damnedst to be there in 2012.

One of the interesting aspects of the voyeur event that some of us experienced is that we got to participate with the playa in a completely different way...certainly the majority of us desired to be in the dust but as we were not (some did experience both) we feed each other in subtle ways.
The hero worship of the Cog for example...in the first part of the week nearly 1:3 chat comments included a reference to cog, with a full range of ridiculous and comical word play...at times the chat text was barely recognizable
As a student of the human process and social structure I found the direction of word play an interesting hand petting or even a common hug...people celebrating the event as they could, strangers joining in.
In the end the people who spent any reasonable amount of time will be able to recognize that common terms with an attached emotion or common memory...dust, blue waffle, shirtcocking, cog, and even hippie took on a life of their own.
This was a rewarding aspect for me that I had not really considered until last night when I was describing the experience to someone without any base of reference.
Let us consider the comical and yet complex new term that developed in the last moments of the viewing event...it was given life and took off...what developed from the common chat room words...pickle and sparkle pony...sparkle pickle!
"sparkle pickles are full of salty glitter...so much glitter!"
Yeah I know, all this talk of human social science boiling down to sparkle pickle, but that is how these things develop.
With the internet, texting, and other tools of the current age we take certain aspects of the process for granted...but a funny word or curious term can be accepted into the common use so quickly that a fad can live for a few days and be considered old in a month where as 25yrs ago it would have taken months maybe years to take hold and a fair amount of time to fade...yet both processes would have touched an equal amount of people, just in a different time scale.
So let us celebrate the modern process...let us worship the cog, appreciate the shrimp dust, desperately avoid the blue waffles/hippies/and shirtcockers...let us dance the dance of the sparkle pickle!
(see, I told you guys I didn't need drugs...I have enough fun living in and out of my own world lol)

AR, glad you're tuned into this. The forging of community and founding of memes and impromptu rituals is one of the original features of Burning Man.
As Burners wander in from the desert this week, this is the best time for a birgin to peek between the spam threads and find the heart that drives this mad experiment.

Re: Camp Envy...shout outs
THANK YOU CAMP ENVY!
Being only 500 miles away in Vegas but not being able to go seriously sucked. But thanks to the Ustream feed and a wireless streaming box from the laptop to the TV I got to enjoy the Trojan Horse burn, the Man burn, and the Temple Burn....and it seriously helped with the attitude around here.
Please pass along a HUGE THANK YOU for a job VERY well done.
(And the COG comments were over the top sometimes...it was amazing to watch the chat and see what people can come up with!)

(aka figgy of the playa)
Glad you enjoyed it - as many have done the same style of burn for the last 2 ( and now many 3) years via keyboard
I cannot and do not speak on behalf of Camp Envy, but do speak on behalf of lil ole me.
two years ago many of us met on-line just as you did, and over time stayed in touch, waiting for our time to return to the playa. This was the first year that Camp Envy members met in person - on the playa, adding a whole new dimension to the typical burn experience. Much like the first day of school.
This year - some of us were able to satisfy the calling and went "home".
Hopefully as the years go by - Camp Envy will continue to grow - on playa as well as on cam.
The playa experience was great, but I know the cams can be just as emotional.
I tried meeting with a few other CE folks to figure out an appropriate list of peeps to thank for their hard work and effort to make sure that everything works for those without playa. It is not just the cam team, BMIR (music and sounds of the playa), net techies to balance loads (users watching the feed) as ustream might have been the best source for the cam, but there were many options others created and hosted so that close to 10K peeps could participate.
It's a gift, from the burning community, to the world, and your appreciation of the final product is what drives BMO and related smaller groups to provide you the best quality that current tech can deliver. Looks like it was very successful.
In the meantime, feel free to check out one of many, but the original Camp Envy via FaceBook : http://www.facebook.com/groups/124335594794/
Between the nuts, dusty balls, bacon, sparkle pony fishing and other traditions, we still have a good time the other 51 weeks of the year.
Peace
