Transmorphagon: Time to go to Large Scale Sound Art?

Post by The Chinese » Wed Sep 07, 2011 12:52 pm

We had an awesome year, great bands, clean sound, bitchin' visuals, awesome peeps in camp. But for the very first time, we had complaints from one neighbor, and Placement also very rudely told me "You're too Fucking loud, either turn it down or Pull up stakes". We spoke to our other neighbors, and no one had any issues; rather were actually very complimentary. I also sit up at the mixing desk with an SPL meter, and keep it under 100dBA slow at front of house after 3AM, and we were basically off after 4am from Mon-Thurs. Anytime our one neighbor complained, we immediately reduced volume, and I even canceled a DJ set in order to placate him. Keep in mind, our sound system was not, and isn't capable of competing with an Opulent Temple, Hookahdome, or Nexus type of Rig. We had the same system we brought out in 2009 & 2010.

So I'm at a crossroads: Do we go to LSSA, where i feel we will get crushed, or do we continue to try and stay on Esplanade to bring quality live music in a smaller, more intimate venue?

Just thinking aloud here, wondering if anyone here came by, had any thoughts, opinions, or other comments. We were at the Corner of 3 Oclock & Esplanade, the live music stage on east corner.

Just wanted to say thanks for helping me share my visual art with the Burners that were at your camp Saturday night :)

Cheers,
