RV awning question!!!

Post by heat » Tue Aug 17, 2004 7:59 pm

Well after many years of tents, then moving up to an old old tent trailer for a couple years, this year a buddy that I infected with Burneritis last year has gone and bought an RV. Wow! What a change that will be. He is installing an awning, fold-out RV type. I am wondering if anyone's had experience with doing a tarp-and-rope shade structure over one of these. Will it hold up??? If run a giant tarp over the thing and we rebar the ropes down at sides/front opening....will we also need PVC poles?
Trying to simplify as I have a spaceship nose-cone to finish....
thanks for any words o' wisdom!

Heat, As a long time R.V.er and doing my 7th burn this year, what I can tell you is what I do... I don't leave camp with my awning in the out position.. The dust devils and wind sheer is just to much... I can get my awning put away in a fast min. You don't want to deal with a broken awning... Enjoy the burn, Dave

I am thinking that an awning will not be enough shade by itself. Do you think that even if a tarp is tied over the whole RV and tied out with the awning for "lift"...that it'll still be in danger if we leave it?
I mean, not counting 70+ mph winds where almost everything is in danger of blowing down.
