I grabbed an egg as soon as I saw the jar! there was no way I was missing out on those babies
I am with JK about the steaks though...that was very unfortunate and if it helps if I am able to be there early I can be a very convincing representative of DO NOT TAKE if it ain't for you people (when needed). The potluck idea is great but with those types of events some of the small details are tough to balance. I think for a first year it was pretty successful though (mishaps are part of the learning process) and future ones will just be even better!
CFMnG sound awesome especially if I'm first in line
I take my commitments with friends seriously so I'm thrilled with that award!! And we WILL pillage...eventually

Re: What are you bringing to the Meet & Greet?
I am slightly disappointed that I didn't get to try the steak or pickled eggs, but I also arrived at like . . . 6:45 or 7:00pm, and I knew better than to be late. Also, I didn't ask.
It was much more important to me to meet the gentlemen behind the steak & eggs than to eat their food. And my mission was accomplished. So, while I support some sort of ePlaya-only thing, I realize it might be really hard to regulate.
If anyone liked the pickled asparagus, that was me! I didn't make it, but it's glorious.

I forgot the quail eggs, and had certainly been looking forward to them. In my sierra cup, I had: one tspn of chili, one tspn of bbq, 2 cookies, 5 jalapeno olives. I brought cookies and jalapeno olives.

Re: What are you bringing to the Meet & Greet?
As always, it was wonderful to spend time with so many of you at the MnG! Even as the token teatotaller this year (ibdave was doing fire duty on the CORE project and UnJohn missed this year) I enjoyed myself immensely! Sorry I missed the steak and pickled quail eggs, but there were plenty of munchies still around when I got there at 6:30ish. Thanks to everyone for making it a great evening... and especially to gaminwench for providing moments of stunning entertainment and hilarity
If anyone finds her pair of green prescription sunglasses, I know she would be grateful!

gaminwench, enjoyed mightily your piano playing. BBD, there were at least a couple more sarsaparilla connoisseurs there.

I do recall that my vote was for marmite (sorry MJ!! I still love you though
)

Re: What are you bringing to the Meet & Greet?
The Vegemite cheated by adding (really good) sharp cheddar
... It would have been a closer match if Marmite also had had (really good) cheese!
Personally, I love both Vegemite AND Marmite, and wish I could get them in Arizona! (without having to drive to Phoenix or some other such nasty place.) They're good in thinnish layers on most any bread or cracker, and both make delicious soup bases! Really nice with brown rice, too!

jk, thank you for taking the trouble to make something for us. I am honored that you would spend three hours cooking up something to delight me and the rest of the fuckos.

This WAS the BEST M&G ever...
True, it wasn't 05, but that was a bad circ... but yeah, I had my knees buckle at least once (and YOU know who you were, dawggoneit!!!!!). And was SO amazed and awed to meet my family there! I will ALWAYS remember this one above all others.
Above all I am so so so so indebted to Doc for putting up with the hell of doing this year after year... he is, has been, and always will be TRULY one of my heroes, on and off playa, of all time!!

Sorry I had to leave MnG early, I enjoyed a gift of a greenish cookie and a bit later found that I had to either walk home immediately or I'd soon become one with the carpet. I had a GREAT (if short) time though!

Dang. There was FOOD there????? How'd I miss that????
(oh yeah.... now I remember.... too busy playing with all my new interactive dangly bits.)
LOVED meeting you all and finally putting faces and tangible energy to you wonderful people in here. I had the best of times with all of you -- so I'm not even going to attempt to name names. You ALL rock!!!! You ALL make me smile still. I miss you, and I love you, and I can't wait to see you all again!!!
Perhaps next time I'll be a tad more demure. The playa gave me my voice. Frankly, it's volume scared even me just a little bit. (sorry Eric!)

There was steak? Pickled asparagus??
I'll have to jump on the JK bandwagon, I arrived barely 30 min after it started and there was little recognizable food stuffs left, aside from chips and usual pre-made snacky stuff. I wasn't there for the food, but it would have been fun to share in the kindness of Eplayans going through the trouble of bringing food.

Hey, thanks, Drawingablank.Drawingablank wrote:The meet and greet was one of the highlights of my first burn. I really enjoyed meeting many of you and was only sorry that I didn't get to spend more time with every one of you.
I have to admit that the beer baseball thing just outside at the beginning was one of the most interesting things I have ever seen, so I was a bit distracted early on.
Congratz to Minxzy on your wedding. My wife is still talking about how much she loved those cookies you brought.
Thanks to Doc Pyro as well - it was a great party and over the next 50 weeks, the cork swag was a nice touch and whenever I get homesick It will recall fond memories.

Re: What are you bringing to the Meet & Greet?
Well, this is all very depressing for some reason.
JK, Tamara and I did our best but, short of recruiting random Big Guys (who were all busy smooching the Hot Chicks) to forcibly eject the folks we didn't recognize (who very well might have been the Dearest Loved Ones of our Favorite Eplayans) there was really nothing we could do about the hordes of people, and, try as we might we could not shuffle the dishes fast enough to maintain any semblance of elegant presentation for all the lovely food.
I did not get a chance to meet half the folks who have posted here what a great party this was, or even all the folks who signed the spreadsheet. Gaminwench I think it was you I chased round and round but never managed to intersect with, sigh.
I had one drink, which I brought myself, but I did manage to pounce on Figjam's mesquite-grilled steak as soon as it arrived
so I did not go hungry.
Great party though, huh?

Mead? Cheyenne you brought mead? Damn... wish I'd found you.

Re: What are you bringing to the Meet & Greet?
There was nothing you could have done to improve the situation with the area being open to the public. The idea of sharing food among friends in this environment was just a ridiculous fiasco. The only person with the ability to have prevented this did nothing.
Next year, if food is again to be a part of the event, either a new venue or a new attitude about closing off the event to the public in the current venue is required.
When I come to the eplaya M&G I want to meet eplayans (and their invited guests), not random people barging in uninvited for a free meal that have no clue what eplaya even is! It's the culmination of a year of forging online friendships. Had we not had so many discussions about what we would bring and share by way of food for the potluck, it might not have mattered that the table was ravaged before invited guests even arrived.
I think the reason the M&G was so well attended this year was because of all the built up discussion and anticipation of what we would be bringing and sharing.
I certainly enjoyed having the opportunity to meet all of the new friends I made this past year on eplaya and reconnecting with all those I knew from previous years, I just felt disappointed and angry that what I brought as a gift to share with all my eplaya friends was allowed to be stolen by a bunch of strangers.
Aside from that, it was a great party!
