"Missed Connections" = "Get in Your Pants"

Post by theCryptofishist » Thu Sep 08, 2011 8:37 pm

Am I correct in assuming that the "missed connection" threads are really about people who met people they wanted to fuck, but didn't get to? Or am I oversimplifying again?

I think you are not over-simplifying but over thinking it. Taking it at face value works for me.

Had any good vibrations lately fishy?

There are probably a few with dreamy fantasies about a beautiful soul mate and a deeply profound nearly spiritual connectedness, But basically yeah I think in mostly has to do with the sexual part of the fantasy.

it's kind of cynical to think missed connections = get in your pants. I posted one after the burn because there is someone who I'd like to get to know, and getting into pants has nothing to do with that. She was very sweet, kind and yes, very cute, and that is the type of person I want to know, but there are a thousand things that would have to happen before any pants are gotten into, if I ever found her. If getting into pants was the main thing on my mind I could find easier ways to accomplish this with less sweet, kind, cute people on or off the playa. For me the main reason I want to find her is to correct a mistake I made, not asking her name. It's killing me that I was so stupid to have let her get away without asking about her. i admit that I think there may have been some mutual attraction, I don't know, but I go to the airport in the default world a lot and girls don't usually make so much eye contact with me and come up to me and wish me a safe flight and give me a hug. That was one of my top 5 favorite moments from Burning Man 2011, but it feels incomplete. I don't care if she has a boyfriend, I don't care if she's a lesbian, married, etc, all I really want is to know her name, and for her to know mine. beyond that, there are no expextations and nobody knows what might come of it.

some of us come to the playa and don't have sex at all (and don't do drugs at all), and have our lives changed by other persons. a nearby message thread asks if it breaks the magic to try to find a "missed connection" on facebook. I struggle to answer that question myself. but for the most part, there are people i met who i failed to complete conversations with, and failed to exchange contact info with.... sometimes people lose the contact info too... last year i couldnt stop thinking about them all year.

when you live in a really dull town like i do, finding inspirational people (whether gurus, art collaborators, or lovers) becomes immensely important, in order to CONTINUE the magic established on the playa.

But you have Pasco, Kennewick, Walla Walla, Puyallup surrounding you. I'm sure you can stir up a little fun somewhere and meet some nice girls there!

Nothing wrong with that...

In all seriousness, that kind of connection can be a reverent experience of the divine.

And it's fun. 8)

(((TnT))) and the missed appointments, when scheduled by the divine, leave such lasting regret...

when you live in a really dull town like i do,
But you have Pasco, Kennewick, Walla Walla, Puyallup surrounding you...
oh mary, quite the contrary! we here in tri-cities experience the art-equivalent of brain-drain... everyone wonderful defects to portland or seattle, it seems. not to mention the motorcentrism... sometimes it's just so hard to see someone's face here! i miss the playa's exquisite randomness! ... but yes, the playa also teaches to transform negativity and regret -- so I should really make an earnest attempt to search the sagebrush for a blackrockian heart murmur... do stop for some yerba mate, mary, (and.... echo!.... anyone?) or hotpepper brandy, should you find yourself passing through atomic city!

(you are right, walla walla seems adorable, but i'm a bicyclist highway-hater)....
