Lemur, those are incredible. I especially love the one of all the lamps lined up. Volunteering with the Lamplighters on the first night of my first burn was one of my most memorable experiences. Your photos warmed my heart.
Re: 2011 picture album links
thank you for saying so..
i am a lamplighter.. they do indeed kick ass (just like you may have heard) and making images of them doing their thing is surely one of the joys of working with them..
oh yeah and, lighting lamps with them is totally awesome as well..

Nicely done!!! I'd give you kudos for those if we had them here. Love playa monochrome stuff - brings out the beauty in a way color can't even come close.
What were you using for shooting stock? Kinda curious as I almost brought out my film gear, but decided not to because of overpackingitis... but perhaps next year...

none of these are completed scanned 'finished' prints from the darkroom, they will be eventually, these are just quick proofs just to get em out online for friends and family to see.. no prints yet, only film.
a fresh supply of enlarging paper is on its way via fedex (to arrive the 20th of september) and prints of this burning man stuff should appear soon after...
hooray!

Nothing like unpacking some old boxes in the basement when I was putting playa stuff away, and finding a 4-roll pack of unexposed Kodachrome 64. THAT damn near broke my heart...

Re: 2011 picture album links
may I ask what sort of camera you used? lovely shots, btw -- sad though about the spray painted "boring." read about it in one of the other threads. it's a whole other thing to see it.CaverX wrote:http://www.flickr.com/photos/61319159@N ... 698234788/

Re: 2011 picture album links
The camera is a Gateway DC-T50, It is an old 5mp camera, which I have been mostly happy with, but it uses an odd ball battery which is expensive to replace, also I think it only supports up to 512mb sd cards which are now actually more expensive than a 2gb.
The battery is dieing, and I can only get 12 shots or less before having to recharge. Time for an upgrade, for sure.
At least my camera did not get in the way of my experience.
(I have been a bit more serious about photography in the past, but lost access to the darkroom I was using years ago. During that time,
I found that it was difficult to be "in the moment" while looking through the lens. Not an uncommon experience, I think.)
[edit: also, thanks for the kind words. As for the "boring" tag, I actually kind of like it, I have not heard the story. Anyone who can stand by
a Flaming Lotus Girls installation and actually think it is boring, might be in the wrong place. I am ok with an ironic tag.
I might actually make myself a sign "BORING" to take out and stand by the coolest work out there, just looking around listlessly.]

given the sand and dust, i think i want to buy an old point & shoot @ ebay to bring with next year. The dragon lit on fire looks awesome and i thought for sure you had a dlsr.
as for the tagging, apparently there were some people that spraypainted a lot of art with the word. original thread here http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic. ... ag#p735720

I wouldn't compare them like that. Every set of photos I've seen have been shot from a slightly different perspective. They're all amazing and it's really neat to see the slight nuances between photographers. Both in the way shots are selected and how photos are developed.Playa Status wrote:Thank you so much! Added a new gallery over the weekend. My attempt at the unconventional. Intentional long exposure motion blurs of the lights on the playa at night taken just prior to the burn of The Man. They are meant to be art for art's sake.

I added all of the Flickr users above as contacts. My screen name is, oddly enough, Super Evil Brian.
Here is my take on Burning Man 2011, to which I'm still adding and will for a while. The scanner is scanning as I type this, and I have more chrome (slides, E-6) to pick up in a couple of days.

Re: 2011 picture album links
So, I was looking through the Scott London collection and come across this:
and said to myself, I have that picture...
So I had to do some digging and found this:

I took that about 2.5 years ago on a weekend trip to Reno .... *shakes head*

I didn't get out enough this year. I'm kicking myself (which is a very interesting proposition, I tell you). Some years are just lazier than others. Maybe it's worth staying in a hotel the night before so you're not utterly wrung out when you get there.
Or, yeah, it's not fun to have done that.

I'm going to call 2012 my virgin year. This year was a dream, literally, I was on so many pain meds, I was loopy the whole time.theCryptofishist wrote:I didn't get out enough this year. That's a good attitude. Why can't every year be a virgin year?TinkerMom wrote:I'm going to call 2012 my virgin year. Why not? Every year can be a whole new discovery and experience (where you somehow know how to avoid mistakes of the past).
I passed through Flagstaff on my way back to horrible Texas. It seemed like a swank place -- one I definately need to explore in greater detail.
