It could very well rain. Weather happens. So we have to prepare for it by:
-bringing rain gear to wear
-making sure our structures are secure. When you set up , yank on everything and try to push it down. If you can, you need to redo it. The wind can end up pushing a lot harder than you.
-keeping our camps tidy! when the whether is good, we forget and start leaving stuff lying around. Then when the wind picks up it blows and becomes instant moop. Then if it rains it'll get buried in mud and create dunes that some poor cleanup volunteer is going to have to dig out and pound down later, probably in the hot sun.

Well, maybe he went to the trusty resident orcas and met the ferocious man-eating transient killer whales instead. Or got his mind blown by the mysterious deep sea varient.Mithra wrote:Sensei?
Um, you said you'd be right back.....I think they may have been a bad pod and they've captured you....that or too much shrooms....There's this pod of orcas down the beach aways and those guys know EVERYTHING. Seriously. I'll be right back.

Well, that didn't turn out like I expected. I said I'd be right back and I wasn't. Sorry. Turns out those two-toned lard-butts were having their own festival. They distracted me with salmon. Never did get an answer; they just snorted and continued with their silly orca games.
I don't like to dwell on this, but I'll admit that this is one way in which I measure 'burniness'.

Winner! We have a winner!theJudge wrote:Part of the fun of going there is experiencing the random weather and being prepared to not only ride it out, but have fun with it.

2000 that was I believe (the Human body). It rained crazy a lot, and playa dust is sticky. Y'all who were there remember wearing your playa platforms? While this makes it virtually impossible to ride a bike during the storm it hardens up the ground nicely afterward (though it's a bit bumpy... but bumpy's fun!) and made for great memories. I'll say for sure that we were never so glad to see Anal street as we were after the long trek accross the playa carrying our bikes and wearing our playa platforms. Don't get me wrong though, like everyone's been saying, the unpredictable weather is one of the most fun and exciting aspects of BRC. 2000 was probably my favorite Burn I've been to.A few years back (4 or 5) it rained a lot. My rainfly blew partially off my tent and I awoke in the middle of the night to about 1/2" of water in my tent.

I hear that! Everyone I talk to says they've got a lot of stuff to do; they're not quite ready. Seems like we had 30 days to go about 5 minutes ago. Somebody stole that last month.
Like I don't know who - fuckin' marine mammalians! I can't wait to see their cowardly faces when I come a gallopin' up astride my Sea Wolf StickHob!

tarps under tents
Absolutely!! A tarp or sheet of plastic. The trick is to fold any 'extra' back under you tent so that it doesn't catch the rain. A properly set-up ground tarp should not be readily visible. This should stop water from coming up through the floor from a wet ground._tears_ wrote:Does having a tarp under your tent help with the rain or does it seem to puddle it under your tent?
