2011 MOOP Map Live

Check out The Burning Blog. This year the DPW Playa Restoration Team and The Hun are doing the MOOP Map Live... we'll be getting daily reports and updates as the team finishes up the hard work of cleaning up the playa ahead of the BLM inspection of the site. Then on October 6, they'll announce the results of this year's inspection.

I am SO interested to see how the de-MOOPing turns out and how much worse it was this year to last (or even IF it is worse than last year). I wish I lived closer because I would volunteer to clean all that shit up in a damn heart beat. But I couldn't go to the Burn if I did because of vacation hours. I do plan on de-MOOPing when I see it, as I see it and shoving extra trash bags at folks I see MOOP all over the Playa (although I wonder if doing that will just cause more MOOP from those MOOPers).

@deutlich - I'm hopeful that this year continues the trend we've seen over the last several years, that camps will be even better at cleanup. The image below shows 2006-2010, with what appear to be improvements each year.

"Esplanade to Anniversary Street, curb to curb, is 400 feet deep. Other double-deep blocks are 430 feet deep. The remaining blocks are 200 feet deep."

We're expecting our third (or maybe our fourth?) green in a row. My partner and I did the final sweep of our camp on Monday and did the minor raking of tire marks and other minor scaring. But we always worry when there are still people on adjacent camps not looking close to well mooped when we make our exit. I have to say that this year our campmates did an exceptional job of Mooping both during the event and when they were leaving.

Unfortunately, your plot is only as MOOP-free as it was left by the last person(s) to dump things there. Several years ago, my camp painstakingly de-MOOPed our themed plot (and neighboring plots) prior to exodus, as we always do. A month or so later, the Afterburn report was published, and I was horrified to discover a big red dot on our plot. The linked map had a cool feature built into it -- you could click on some of the red dots and the site would bring up photographs of what was left behind at those locations. I was disappointed to find that someone had dumped an entire generator baffle on our plot long after we were gone. I was fearful that my camp would be held responsible since that was on our documented themed plot, but I think the organizers take this into consideration. Either way, I was still pissed and deem those that left their baffle behind "asshats."

Sweet! Green! Haven't been since they started posting these. As a map nerd I'm in love with it. It really gives something for people to aim for.

2011 was my virgin year at the burn, it was a blast. Figured it was time to register on eplaya after lurking for many months....Why? MOOP.
I managed to get that huge 300+MB satellite image that was shot Thursday noon-ish at the burn. It's big, but you can zoooom way in and see your camp, neato.
Now the moop map is slowly filling out, and I'm bored at work, so might as well mash 'em up!

It's a big file, (about 120MB) but you can zoom way in and see details. It's not a perfect fit, but I did my best. I'll try and update it a few more times as the moop map is updated. Below you can see a small teaser of what the large file looks like. Thanks for being a cool community!

Edit 2: Remember the moop map isn't exact, so don't freak out on people for being messy. There are some red dots on seemingly empty spots (Corner of 6:15 and K?), so who knows what the real story is out there....

No, I haven't Ben to bm yet. I've read so much about MOOP & sparkle ponies on the boards, though, that I wondered if there'll be a significant difference in colors in the rest of BRC (record breaking sales and all).

I guess I'm curious if there'll be a few more hotspots or if it stayed in line with the decreasing trend of MOOP over the last few years.
