TMZ's Ryan Dunn page....
http://www.tmz.com/person/ryan-dunn/
BAC story with a police chief indicating toxicology testing has already been done:
http://www.tmz.com/2011/06/22/cops-ryan ... ice-chief/
In short I have no reason to suspect the cops would spin this one to cover themselves. Ryan got stupid, he crashed, he died and took someone else with him. What else is there to this?
And considering Harvey Levin runs TMZ and as an attorney he knows better than most the perils of reporting misinformation...yeah...I trust the source.

I bring order to chaos. And I bring chaos to those who deserve it, wherever that may be.

It's tmz.
What is the speed based on?
Like I said, ludicrous "science" used for speed by police, or just fantasy.
Ever heard of a 'skid chart'?
Supposed to reveal speed by skid marks.
No actual science involved.
I've seen them written for 1948 cars used for modern bike tires.
Utterly meaningless.
BAC testing in a corpse is an entire forensics discussion.
Then you have to ask if .2 constitutes impairment for this person.
A single car crash is not usually caused by alcohol, but by stupidity.
Driving beyond your capability would be included in this.
Just because someone says something, doesn't make it true.
More critically, just because someone says someone said something, doesn't mean it happened at all.
This applies especially to early reports about well known people, and any opinions by the police.
You always need to know what information is based on.
Given the current party line about alcohol, spin is always in play.
It is well known that driving "'under the influence" can be done safely.
No sensible politician would ever report anything supporting this fact.
It has been suggested that many lives could be saved with appropriate training, but few scientists will touch the subject.
Madd flatly opposes such training.
Better to let people die.
Navy research was the first to prove this, rather to their dismay.
Some people drink because they're stupid.
Driving stupid will always hurt you.
That probably isn't the easiest car to drive quickly, and it will reach close to 180 mph.

Forget about the science.
Fact: The car's toast.
Fact: Ryan's clearly dead.
Fact: He was found behind the wheel.
Fact: Another body was found in the passenger's seat.
Dead is dead.
The rest is for the courts and attorneys to battle it out over and we'll have moved on to the next news story of the moment....sad to say but it is what it is.
As for TMZ their track record speaks for itself. And it's a good record.

Yes....and no.gyre wrote:TMZ is "entertainment", a legal fiction, allowing them to get away with almost anything.
Still it made CNN International....and I dare you to question their news credentials. In any case I won't argue with you on this anymore...there's better battles to fight. And your points about the science of accident scenes got my attention. In fact very much so...transportation issues are part of what pays the bills around here.

I can actually take a big swing at all "for profit" news, and I have before.
Without a source for the mph, don't take it seriously.
Would "fatal accident for unknown reasons" play as well?
There could be another car involved, or an animal, and we will never know.
Mechanical failure will usually be found with enough diligence.
The black box may reveal some details of the crash.
It does appear as stupidity, but early days.
Most driver training is wildly inadequate, even for normal cars.
I have offered to train some of my young relatives.
Their parents usually are for it.
These kids have no emergency training whatsoever.
None of them have followed up on this offer or gone for training elsewhere.
I have some friends who have, but this is the typical public.
For most people, it is the highest risk to their life, and they make no effort at all.
It is important to remember that statistics don't apply to individuals.
What you do, and what you know, matters.

Jackass did an awesome tribute to Evel Knievel.
I read somewhere about not doing TWO stupid things at one time... like drinking and driving fast.........a couple of years ago i was in my friends car when he did both of those... while we didn't die, we did hit a phone pole at almost 70mph..... he walked away without a scratch ( typical ) and it took the fire fighters almost two hours to cut my out of the twisted metal with the "jaws-of-life" .... after several months in a wheel chair and a pain that is still a constant i have very little sympathy for these kind of things... yea he made a mistake but if you had love for the passanger of his car then you wouldn't care if he was going 100mph or 130mph if he had been drinking minutes before he drove home or hours... just that he made the choice to be a jack... no dumbass and it as a result you will never see that person you love again.

Let's not forget when a vehicle is driven in an unsafe manner, under the influence or not, potentially many others are put at risk (not just those in the vehicle)
If you do something stupid and suffer the consequences, so be it. When innocent parties are involved I have absolutely no compassion, none at all. In fact, fuck you, you selfish bastard, rot in hell.

If cocaine were legal, would they sell it in little packages like Sweet N' Low? Would they call it Sweet N' High?
