So what are you doing for the Meet & Greet in 2012?
Re: So what are you doing for the Meet & Greet in 2012?
do you have power cords and multiple outlet plug-in's available? that would make for more hot crockpot type foods. less 'snackie' things like chips. but then we would have to be responsible for quickly removing the emptied crockpot to make room for another and not to leave them behind.

I'll bring some homebrew again and actually serve it this time. This year I just set it on the table and got distracted. I hope someone drank it.

First things first. I have to MAKE IT!!!!! I swear it's on my "to do" list and for whatever reason something gets in the way. This year my wife was filming the Regional Burn and needed the car as an elevated platform to shoot from. Blah, blah, blah. It just sounds like a great event and i so want to meet all the folks who make this forum such a great place. So 2012 or bust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had originally thought to bring Absinthe but reading that the Doc brings absinthe (and lust), I gotta ask if there's room for more? Perhaps an absinthe taste testing? (I'm new so don't want to be stepping on anyone's toes)
Alternately, I was thinking of bringing ice cream sandwiches. =)

Veggies!!
My mom has a acer big garden with huge surplus of stuff. I THINK it may hold up?? Any ideas on veggies holding up for 5 days? Also sweet corn! Would LOVE to bring some good Iowa sweet corn but not sure how we could cook it there???
Imput?

FYI.. one of the coolest tricks I witnessed this year: Ice cream sandwiches make the perfect buffer between dry ice in a cooler. They will stay rock hard, but absorb enough of the freezing cold that the temp above them will stay slightly below freezing! take dry ice.. put in bottom of cooler. Stack a few layers of ice cream sandwiches on top. Fill rest of cooler with food. Cold food AND a cooler full of frozen ice cream sandwiches for the whole week! Voila!
It works!

I don't think there could be too much absinthe. I've never tried it and have been hoping now for three M&G's straight to get a taste, and the bottle(s) always seem to elude me. Maybe next year will finally be my lucky year!

Burning Man is a "do-ocracy". You want it done, you do it. Want to boil them? Bring a big pot, put water in it, and put it on a stove. I bring a little single burner Coleman stove with me for simple water boiling and food heat up. Roasting them may be harder.. you need open fire.
Remember young grasshoppa.. anything is possible. You just need to figure out how YOU are going to do it sans help. Radical self-reliance and all.

The enthusiasm is much appreciated.
Corn makes a damn mess (little bits go everywhere and becomes a moopy messy thing) which is a shame because I love corn. Another camp does corn, so you can get a fix out on the playa but we (BDC) don't want the corn related mess at our camp. But veges are a great idea and we do have cooking facilities. So there are plenty of alternatives:
- You might think of making some corn fritters or zucchini fritters and frying them (we have the technology to do that - but you have to help with the clean up)
- stuffed capsicum (you call them bell peppers I think) would be awesome
- carrot and celery sticks and hommus are also bloody delicious
fresh veges that are not in a fridge or an esky will die and go mouldy so if you wanna do veges then just keep that in mind. However a jar (or jars) of ice cold pickles would also be a good thing to bring.

We could always use more absinthe (well I personally couldn't, but that's because I am a cheap slutty drunk)

Why yes we do!snake wrote:do you have power cords and multiple outlet plug-in's available? that would make for more hot crockpot type foods. less 'snackie' things like chips. but then we would have to be responsible for quickly removing the emptied crockpot to make room for another and not to leave them behind.
We can manage the above with a little pre-planning. We have a chilli cook off earlier in the week for our camp and we seem to be able to manage that just fine.

Hmmm....now I'm all for fancy, but I also like the KISS concept at times as well.
But stores like Smart N Final sell disposable warming trays and canned sterno that would seem to be easier than crock pots...not to mention electrical heating/cooking takes lots of juice.

I forgot to pack the 6 bottles of good wine for the 2011 MnG
(I brought a 6 pack of ice instead)
Is it possible for everyone to walk/ride/MV/stumble down to watch the CORE regional burn together, and return to BDC and pick up where we left off? So many ducked out for that, I thought I'd throw it out there.
I don't cook nor use food cooling, soooo, what's a good playa pickle? or other finger foods, almonds, olives, ????
I did keep a case of apples fresh for 10 days in the horse trailer!
really really fresh and tasty too.
[mel, I told doc p I could remove several BIG bags of MOOP, by dawn-ish. I'll have ample storage in my horse trailer and the means to get them transferred there]

What I am doing is being on the clean up crew.
What I am bringing (aside from my latest fashion travesty) will propably depend on how I travel to the burn, but certainly will be something if only ice and booze.

I wouldn't count on this. We know how party dynamics go/immediacy of the interaction/playa in general. Once we start wandering on that playa, there's no coming back..
I mean.. sure.. there would be exceptions.. but 80% I don't think would return after wandering off.

Apples are a great idea! just core them (we can dry and burn the cores), slice them and hand them out. We could even put vegemite on them. It's not gross, just try it
And yes I'm putting you on the clean up crew for your ability to manage bags of crap.
