Okay kids- lets get a date hammered. We were thinking mid-November, so either the weekend of the 12th or the 19th.

I've created a poll for the date: please vote! Poll ends around noon on Monday, leaving at least a full month for people to arrange travel plans.

Anyone on ePlaya is invited (even lurkers!), as well as friends & family! If you can get here we would love to have you!

My first thought was Zeitgeist (punk rock dive bar that serves food and has a decent sized outdoor area with picnic tables out back), but I'm not sure how handicapped accessible the back is. My second thought was the awesome dive-bar/greasy spoon diner that is Red's Java House on Embarcadero at Pier-Whothefuckknows. It's been around forever, is right on the bay, has good food and a normal assortment of non-alcoholic drinks, and also has PBR and Tecate (available in buckets, too). My third thought was man, I must have some kind of a thing for dive bars.

Reds is pretty small, and it can be really busy (then again, so can Zeitgeist), tho I'm addicted to their burgers and fries... when I worked the bridge that was our lunch hangout... their prices went up, but where else do you have a "Burger and beer" combo meal? ---grins--

OTOH, I like the Zeitgeist idea... AFAIK it's accessable (tho will check it out this weekend 2 be sure) , they do have the huge "backyard" and a metric shitload of booze... I've also considered them one fo the few non-BRC burner bars I know of - when I first started thinking of doing a burner bar they came to mind...

Or if you want cheap dive bars, Sadie's Pink Elephant - over on Potrero @ 17th, tho I heard somewhere they may be closed...

Zeitgeist is a great space, but if it's a nice weekend it will be packed.

There's also El Rio on Mission just below Chavez- the patio is definitely accessible, and depending on the Saturday it may not be too crowded (if it's the Saturday of "Hard French" there will be no way for us to fit). Sundays will pretty much be always crowded.

BBSue or Fishy- can you think of any good spaces in the East Bay?

I do like the idea of being along the water, it's kind of the polar opposite to the playa MnG.

Note... I'm putting links to these local SF businesses so that people coming from out of town or who may not be familiar with them can take a look and get a feel for the potential get together locations are. I'm not trying to get you to buy anything for sale on those sites, and have absolutely no involvement in any of the businesses. Once we figure out a place, I'll go back in and pull the links

Red's has a nice outdoor area behind it on the pier. But yeah, if the weather was poor it would be way too small.

About a block away, but still with a bay view (look out that window - it's water! And a bridge!) is Gordon Biersch brewpub. I'm not as excited about this place what with it being a chain, but the food, drink, and location are all pretty good.

Zeitgeist may actually be accessible. looking at the picture of the back on the web page makes me think there's a ramp to the side of the stairs going out.

Another brewpub in the vicinity (though no bay view) is 21st Amendment. They've also got a mezzanine area that can probably be reserved.

Then there's Bender's Bar & Grill. Kitchen open from 6pm, and yes... $2 PBR in cans. 19th & South Van Ness.

And also... The Sycamore. Great food, and you can't go wrong with a place that's got a beer menu. And hey, it's in The Mission! (Mission between 17 & 18)

Lanesplitters Berkeley, San Pablo at University, has a pretty nice back yard. I was thinking of something,t ho... with the weather, what happens if it's a pouring soupy mess? Something to think about.

And yeah, I seem to remember a ramp at Zeit.

El Rio looks pretty cool, but they also do bands. Could get loud and packed.

In my mind, Zeitgeist, Sycamore, and Bender's are the front runners. We'll probably want to aim for afternoon to late-afternoon for a meeting time, if only to make it easier to get a group in and seated.

I like to look at the bridge more than I like to cross it but if the place I found online is the one you're talking about, I think so. For me it'd be around an hour each way through combination of bus/bart/walking (seems reasonable). I'd just need to double check schedules for the day to make sure I don't do something silly like miss the end of service for the day (I do dumb stuff like that).

Is this the place you found? We can make a reservation, if there are more than 10 of us, which it looks like we could easily do. We'd have to be on the first floor. And yes, very accessible to BART. (Last train is probably midnight...)

Funny that you mention it, I was thinking the same thing. While it's not a gathering of people specific-to-one-region and not organized by the regional group, it is an event.

I make an organic pizza with tomotoes, mushrooms and feta using an organic pizza sauce and pizza crust. I am st present looking for recipe for a gluten free crust which if found will allow me to completely meet all diet requirements for my Frau.

Of course... one will typically not find that in a restraunt...

So.. I will just shut-up now...

For what it's worth, the ARTumnal Gathering is on Saturday November 19. All kinds of official and arty and fancy, at the Bentley Reserve and whatnot.

Menu-wise, you may want to check some of the links to scope out their menus. A few have vegetarian, vegan, and healthy choices, and it wouldn't surprise me if a couple even sported gluten-free options. It's San Francisco, sometimes we're cool like that.

I checked out Jupiters menu, and their are definitely options for vegetarians (or those w/ dairy restrictions like me). Strict vegans might be limited to salads & olives, but I think I'm the closest to that on here and I'd be fine with Jupiter. It'll get me out of the City for once!

On another note:
