I don't think there is any such thing called a "good burner".
Anyone who believes in the basic principles is a burner. Beyond that... noone has to prove a thing to anyone.

And....fuck the moderators, I agree there are lots of links that are beneficial to help each other out, and I see no difference in yours.

It ain't commerce posting links to products or deals that are helpful to us "burners", well, at least the OLD moderators used to turn the cheek when someone is walking that fine line.

Kinda funny how links to Gaffer's tapes, Supplies/ice/Burner friendly stores in Reno, etc are OK, but someone would think that links to "free" stuff isn't.

Your post will not be deleted. All the points you make are valid. Further, you are really a valued member of this forum. I have read your posts, and most are very constructive.
I have had a few of my own posts deleted from here. One was a referral for a $60 bike at Walmart. I thought is was something useful, but others did not. On one of my first posts, I was called a sock puppet because of the detail of my post. I think there is a little break-in period on this forum.

It's important to note, that law enforcement monitors this forum and watch for questionable things. They pop on from time to time and attempt to set up stings. It's very obvious, and they get their brains bashed in. I love when they play under age kids looking for company.

I tagged your post for coupons to see what other mods thought of it, since it was a link to a commercial site. Yes, I agree that there is a weird line between commerce and referral--and I was having trouble with it there. After a day or so, you were getting positive replies, and I dropped my question.

As far as a double standard, the line softens very quickly. I can look at a first time poster and sense problems vs. the same words from someone on for a few months.

I hope you can appreciate the idea of letting you know by a PM of something that may be an issue as opposed to in public. If you come to the meet and greet in 2012, you will meet most of the mods, and hopefully become friends.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and I will help out. I really hope you stick around, your contributions to the forum are truly welcome.

Seeing as tattoogoddess deleted her post I moved the post of the boards as this thread no longer had relevance with her reasons being gone. OED replied while I was doing that, I've restored the thread.

tattoogoddess- I encourage you to repost your reasons (I read them before you deleted them, but I'm not sure if any of the other Mods did). If you have a complaint, make it open so it can be addressed. Deleting them just makes this a pointless thread.

Burning Man isn't all love & puppies, neither is ePlaya; it is however a community- you'll discover you really like some people, you'll discover you don't like some at all. Just like life. If someone annoys you, "plonk" them (here's how)- not seeing the posts of people who annoy you can really make this a much more enjoyable experience. Before I was a mod I had dozens plonked and it really made things nice.

I FEEL that there is a VER large double standard here as to what can be posted. Senior posters/Senior Burners vs Virgins/new posters.

I feel like I am being "picked on" because I am the new girl here. I would like to think I have been helpfull here and contributed well. I have read the quidelines and tried not to be a sparkel pony, I have read hours of articles here and other sites, Watched hours of videos and how to's, Joines a camp, offered my talents to this camp and others, signed up for volunteered spots for 2012 already, tried to help solve mysteries around here. I have done my best to be the best I can here and just feel like im being slapped in the face to open my email everyday being told by one mood I am not doing things up to her standards. when I see it as I am doing nothing wrong and trying to help.

My observation on substance-related posts:

* Posts that refer to past colorful behavior are ignored/enjoyed for their keen entertainment value.

* Posts that refer to future plans receive moderator attention to protect all of us (and the theme camps we're part of) from unfair scrutiny. And I've seen this applied to veteran Burners who were just joking around, naive newbies who were just trying to be friendly, and total strangers who were either insane swindlers or undercover law enforcement.

(This was the clumsiest one.)

I almost sent you a note yesterday, commending you on how you had responded in one of your posts in the speaker thread. I was rushing to get out the door, clicked away and *poof* totally forgot I wanted to message.

Just remember we're all different. I spent a long, long time wearing my heart on my sleeve. To a good extent, I still do. But not everyone else does (nor empathize with those that do) and that's okay too.

For what it's worth I'd like it if you stuck around. I can see the issue with the coupon thread but when I first got in there I was STOKED. Again, rushing out the door left me unable to bookmark the links. Next time, I'll know better.

For what it's worth, tattoogoddess (I hope I didn't mess up the capitalization there) I see you as a someone who has ten months and a solid change of being a "stealth burner" this summer. I see you eagerly getting into all sorts of stuff. I only saw the coupon thread, and I was reading, but not following links, I"m kinda like jk, but was watching for a while before deciding what not to click.

Argh. What I'm garbling here is you may or may not have made a mistake or crossed a line, I don't know. But if you did, it was an honest mistake, rather than chain yanking or asshatry. I don't think that it's something that cost you much, if anything, in terms of standing on the board. And you still can come back to full success (whatever that may mean.)

Savannah pretty much has it there. As a side note- if I had seen the video on harvesting weed I would have yanked it immediately. Complete crossing of the ToS as far as I'm concerned.

We're only human, we all have lives and none of the Mods sees every single post that goes up, but hopefully between the lot of us we keep things calm(ish)...

As Fishy says, I think you have all the makings of a stealth virgin this year (deutlich as well!)

Now I have to see if that video's still around.

Since always. We now have a quarantine thread where the threads can dwell until a consensus is reached. Before, I pretty much unilaterally deleted them outright. But I'm semi-retired now, and leave the active moderating to the new guys (except spam and emergencies). I can see we're still in transition.

Mods have always had that power. Threads that may be problematic go into quarantine while we discuss them- which is what I had done with this one when all the original posts were deleted- there was no commentary or criticism, there was nothing in the thread except two weird hanging posts. While I was moving it you had responded, so I shifted it back to active as it was no longer a pointless thread and discussion wasn't needed; this is also why I encouraged the OP to put her original comments back up.

Oooh, scary abuse of power.

Last year's compliment of stealth virgins included maryanimal, fox fur, graidawg, tamarkay and MyDearFriend. So, they may look pretty adept and well-versed on the board, but they were taking baby steps a year ago.
