Howdy!
My name is Melodie, 2011 was my first year at Burning Man and I have been crying to go HOME since my return to the Default World! I cannot wait to return in 2012 and make it an even more memorable experience! I am very shy at times but try to be outgoing, that being said, my one goal above all goals (besides self reliance) for the trip home next year is to make more friends to take back to the default world.
XOXO

Re: Newbie
Well, this is a good place to meet people. There's also a thread about being shy at burningman. I think it's in one of the "Preparation" sub-fora. And there will be a meet and greet on thursday of burn week.

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

You'll see that a lot of us are shy, even though it can be hard to see. You have company.

Welcome to the ePlaya! Don't worry, time flies and before you know it you'll be wishing you had a few more days to get everything together before you load up for the journey
Check the regionals page on the main site and connect with your regional group. Even if it's not based in your city, get on that newsletter. They'll hopefully be able to keep you informed of events closer to home throughout the year, and like the Jack Rabbit Speaks they may have useful info for next year's burn (if you're coming from a great distance, they may even be helping people coordinate shipping and travel arrangements). Of course, this site's also a great resource, and the wonderful community can be a great 'support group' for when you're going through playa withdrawals.

Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Eplaya helps curve that craving for playa!
But only helps a bit.... then come July, it will make you crave home even more!
Love the avatar!
My imediate thought was "Give me the holy hand grenade"
