Bacon = Failure

Post by oneeyeddick » Mon Oct 10, 2011 12:21 pm

I am not pleased with the state of bacon at fast food places nowadays.
Now Burger King has also changed thier bacon to that extremely artificial "smokey" tasting crap that some of the other chains(carl's JR, McD, etc..) have been using for years...well, even BK's bacon had a slight bit of smokiness artificially there, but now it is just at an intolerable level.

Don't get be wrong, I love a strong hickory smoke flavor in the bacon, but just if it should be there because the bacon was actually smoked.

And just don't get me started on Wendy's "BaconAter"!!!

Harumph!

It's not real bacon. It's made out of Jewish babies.

It's pretty sad what qualifies as "bacon" in chain fast-food restaurants these days. Usually it's these pathetic, ethereal strip(s) of bacon with little flavor and texture, or overdosed "smoke" as you mentioned, but still no texture. I now try to avoid being lured in by the claim of "bacon" in a burger, at least at those places.

My favorite fast food bacon burgers come from Greek-owned burger joints. They treat you right with nice slabs of bacon, sauce, etc. and usually generous portions.

yes, I agree, any type of sit down restuarant is pretty much still doing it right, but when you are driving a full size bobtail your parking options are usually limited to out back by the dumpster, O woe is my bacon predickament.

I have brought my OWN bags of bacon to work with plans of putting them on whatever I have for lunch that day, but I always eat all of the bag in my first hour or two.

Well then, maybe you should consider hanging a big ole pair of bacon bags off the rear end of your trailer like a pair of bacon balls to go with your one eye, Dick, :wink: and make it harder for you to dine on your balls, maybe they'll last longer eh? :mrgreen: Course you may find yourself getting pulled over more often by those jack booted thugs who would wish to commit cannibalism :lol:

being a lover of Jack in the Box drive thru and a lover of bacon, I tried a jr. bacon cheese burger and the bacon were these shrivel, snively litte pieces of formed-looking mystery meat. I will never have another one, but I'll always eat a JITB!

The "food" at fast food places, and not just the bacon, is creatures (metaphorically speaking, so this covers veg as well) of the lab, rather than from the field.

I hate to say this guys, but all the USA bacon (except for all bacon on the playa) tasted like rubbish. Sorry. But the USA bacon is (generally) cut too thin, and doesn't have much taste. Now the Canadian bacon is fantastic, nice and thickly cut.

I am a bacon snob. I will admit to that. But really America, you need to pull your socks up when it comes to bacon.

I actually like American bacon. I like the pre-packaged stuff that is sliced thin and fried in neat rows with care to keep it flat. I also like the thick bits and pieces that are dumped into hot bacon grease, cooked slow, and then the heat turned up when just about done. And I like everything in between.

Graidawg and I had this discussion (I'd say argument, but that would be a little over the top) when I was in London and we were on our fourth or fifth ale. So I decided to try English bacon for myself and it sucks. Just awful. But then I thought, "Well, the English can cook worth a damn, so I'll wait until I get to Paris and Rome to objectively gauge European bacon." Certainly their bacon was better than what was inflicted upon me in London (the bacon in London is like lopping off a hunk of a honey-baked ham and overcooking it by about an hour), but to say that it was better than good old, God-fearing American bacon is simply wrong. Now, the thin-cut American bacon isn't the best by any means, which is why I only buy thick-sliced bacon. But to say that European bacon is better than that rustled up here in the U.S. of A. is blasphamy. And if you think I'm wrong (uh oh, here comes the stampede) bring European/Australian/Brazilian bacon to the Barbie Death Village Pancake (and bacon) Porkout and let the best bacon win.

if I want bacon, I ask for bacon
