Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
The new boards are great.
I like the Active Topic summary.
But in Preparation, the active topic tracking covers Shelter & Camping, Transportation, Clothing & Playawear, Food & Drink, Power & Illumination, Keeping Cool but *not* Q&A Tips and Tricks.
How about adding it to All About Burningman and Year Round Connections?
As for Years Past, I have no idea why people revive threads from older than last year, so glad to defer to the thoughts of those wiser than me on whether Active Topics is needed, ditto for Greeters' Station.

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
There are many reasons. Everything old is new again...some things never change and so sometimes when an old post is found that seems relevant or answers a question some new person just asked, the post is raised from the dead. Sometimes it is for malicious reasons, to stir up old shit. The reasons go on and on.some seeing eye wrote:The new boards are great.

I didn't realize that the most active forums link even worked. I never use it. But how people read the eplaya has an old thread of its own...search for it and resurrect it!

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
Thread resurrection usually happens when someone searches for something and they reply to the first result without giving any thought to the forum it's in or the dates of the previous replies. We also have seen a lot of older threads in Preparation start seeing new activity because of the board shuffling and expansion - threads that had been long buried in the old category are being discovered and getting new life.
I'll go in and take a look at the Q&A forum settings and see if I can get it switched on. It's an older board, I,m not sure offhand if it just inherited 'off' as a default or if the board will need to be rebuilt and the site re-indexed to get it going.

And then there's spam. (I'm presuming)
That confusingly reanimated thread that doesn't show a post more recent than 2008.
Am I close? Or am I crazy?

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
I was able to change the settings on the Q&A board, active topics in that sub-forum should now show up in the active topics list under Preparation. Getting active topics to work on All About Burning Man and Year Round Connections required rebuilding the areas, but that's done and should be working now.

Oh, there has much better placed spam on the boards (some of which is even the new-fangled context-sensitive 'smart spam'). But like all the rest, it gets nuked.

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
Just looked at the 2011 Lost & Found forum. Can't believe people are posting about lost bikes in late October.
In any case, somebody should post a sticky announcement pointing here, no?

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
There's already a sticky in each of the lost boards with the pertinent info. But yeah, seems a bit late (to me) to just be getting around to mentioning it.

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
Urm, missed that. But I would have expected a sticky at the topmost level explaining general procedures for *both* lost & found property, eg whether or not to contact the office/volunteer/whatever, or just post to the eplaya. There are no stickies in the Found property threads.
If that's by design, so be it, but I would have started the filtering earlier. Like on Exodus, a billboard saying, "Did you 'lose' a bike? 'Find' a bike? Stop and go the fuck to Center Camp, or don't bitch at us later."

Re: Consistency & Expanding Active Topic Tracking
Got it, thanks. It was already locked once the L&F boards were set up, but was still sticky. Now that it's unstuck it should have settled in place and be out of the way.
