Advice Needed - Hair Bleaching
Advice Needed - Hair Bleaching
I want to bleach the hair on my head and my facial hair...
I want it WHITE, or as close to it as I can get...
What should I use to do this? I'm mostly concerned about trashing my face with something super-crazy-harsh... I don't care if it hurts/burns as long as I don't get all fucked up, ya know?
Lemme know - thanks.

I had a run at this last year. I went to my haircutter before the playa, and she said there are two options: hair "coloring" and hair "bleaching" (which can also have color in it). The former can be washed out after a few days, but the latter has to grow out, she said.
Since I didn't work at a place that would have understood my post-playa blue streaks, I went with the coloring. It was disappointing in that is was hard to even see it in my hair.
Evidently, the bleaching is safe on beard or head, if you can live with it for a month or so after the Burn.

I used to beach my ahir all the time, it never came out *white* but it was pertty damn close. (Actually, i think it was alomst white after being out on the playa for a week, from the constant sun exposure).
I used Speedlite (powder packets that come in a purple box) and a 40 "pue white" developer. Each availble at your local beauty supply store, about $5 each. (Note: the Speedlite comes 4 packets/box, it says use 2 but I only used one since my ahir was so short--buzz cut-- but remember to also halve all the other ingredients.)
I absolutely DO NOT recommened using this on facial hair or any other body ahir besides your head.

My buddy and I did this last year and it looked great (platinum) and also took spray on color really well -- neon pink in my case -- but we used a regular hairdresser who's a friend and burner. We both have black hair so it took _hours_ but it as worth it to get it done well and I kept it up for four months.
There's a party in my mind
Hi, I'm a stylist. First tell me what color you hair is naturally. have you colored it before? how longer ago? It can be very hard to bleach hair to white. For most people I would not recommend it outside the salon. I don't think you should try bleaching you beard, facial hair is not the same as head hair; it is often much darker and much more cores, you would be just asking for trouble.
ps. I can't give you any real kind of help without seeing you. If you burn the hell out off your scalp and all your hair falls out, you should have gone to a solon in your area. now you know and I'm not liable

I bleached my hair almost to white quite easily with goo from Hot Topic. You buy the box (it's like $15) and just follow the directions. I have dark brown hair and it came out just fine. As far as I know, it didn't damage my hair. In fact, it was really soft afterward. Just follow the directions and you'll be fine.
Thanks to Addis, I had more free time.
I say love your slightly ethnic hair!
The truth is that any chemical change done to hair (coloring, bleaching, perming, and relaxing) is going to damage your hair- that's sorta the definition. The trick is to know how do as little damage to it as you can.
Most people won't melt all of their hair off if they follow the directions on the kits that are sold at stores like Hot Topic, but, they are going to have a hard time getting the desired result if they want something as hard to obtain as snow white hair. It is just not in the cards for some people!
I see allot of bad hair in my city, and Black Rock City is no exception. You don't have to have bad hair, you just need to be real about how much money and work you want your hair to be.

Thanks, y'all...
Here's the "final" product:

At least, that's what I'll be taking to BRC.
Hard to see in these pics, but the bleached beard came out GREAT!
:)

I wouldn't exactly say it's white, more of a chicken yellow. Words of advice from a do-it-yourselfer.... wait a bit until your scalp is happier and maybe do it again to go lighter. DON'T FORGET A TONER, unless you want GREEN hair by the end of the week.
Just my humble advice... don't no one go yellin at me.
