Joe Stack is a perfect example of someone who could have done well if he hadn't bought so much into the American Dream ideal. It was probably ingrained in his psychological makeup so much that the shock that it was a lie pushed him over the edge in completely the opposite direction. He actually believed that and because he had too rigid a sense of justice, pursued the IRS like a bulldog. Most people find ways to get by without raising a stink and that is what he did and why the IRS targeted him. Not many people can get to retirement income within 10 years, but if you read it, he did so a couple of times and "went back to zero" as he says because he was fighting an unjust system. The IRS knows people cheat the system and they won't mind "too much" until you question their ability to tax you. They want to keep the system going and both sides benefit from this "necessary evil". In the old days it used to be war lords going to farmers saying "give me your first born or 10 percent of your crops". This is where the word "tithe" comes from, which means to extract a tenth from. Now that civilization has raised the average person to the level that kings used to live at during the middle ages, that rate has gone above 10% to keep the average person from building their own space programs, etc...

I personally think that what the people do as a mass collectively is bound by a mix of heimarmene and tuche.

The $9.95 jeans are pretty good.. I have three pair that change into each week.. They have lasted two years.. Wear them for two days, turn inside out and wash..

Have some old (patched) pair & aprons for garden and shop..

I'm actually heading out to an Occupy Halloween event right now! Though I suspect this will be more fun than protest; considering it's held in conjunction with the West Hollywood Holloween street party.

Being in Oregon, I'm surprised you would even ask that question. Compassion is not just for the sake of others, but it also works on your spirit to keep you from turning cold and keep you in right relationship with the universe. Time spent on others is never wasted because part of you is in everyone else you know. You may not see the results you want but every action invested in the world has a place in time and it is impossible for it to come to naught. The laws of physics prove that energy is never lost.

For the record I don't do any drugs, it screws with my music too much and I get a much better "high" by nailing a solo.

I call for an action to stop spending on any/all over priced extras.. But no you wont give up your latest Ipod.. What would your have to play with while camping in the park.. How about those next big thing that will make ya look good.. Stop feeding the bastards that are robing you.. How about the fast food giants.. No, your lazy ass has learned how not to cook.. You apparently have not seen the other posts about how I've survived out in the desert over the last few years while this financial meltdown was happening. Not everyone is going to get it on an intellectual level, but as I said before this movement is like an emotional reaction to years of BS that has built up. The politics of those in charge as a whole has contributed to this mess, and their gridlock (which allows the 1% to laugh all the way to the bank) is what has created this phenomenon. It's OK for the movement to be about "nothing". Seinfeld gave us a show about nothing while we were sleeping. It's only fitting that we give the govt a show about nothing while waking up.

It is the just karma for all the deeds built up since the Reagan admin took office and started deregulating everything, repealing Glass-Stegall, etc...

News flash... Car sales in Oct highest in 8 months.

Which means that car sales were higher last February. Not too reassuring on the economic front given that Aug is when they roll out the new model year. I'd be more impressed if it was the best in several years.
