Now I know we're fucked. I wonder if any of the 1200 dumb shits who participated in this poll knows that Reagan was the first of the big de-regulators who helped to ushser in the S&L crisis---Reagan over Roosevelt??? Reagan was making syphilis movies at Fort Baker when Roosevelt was guiding the country during a tense global war.
Fucking dumb shit idiots. Get me to another planet please....

Ronald Reagan beat out Franklin Delano Roosevelt as the former president Americans would like to see in the White House during these trying economic times, a new 60 Minutes/Vanity Fair poll finds.

Thirty-six percent of those polled said they wanted the Gipper to lead America out of the economic crisis, while 29 percent picked Roosevelt. Thomas Jefferson came in third place with the support of 14 percent of those polled, followed by Roosevelt’s successor Harry Truman at 8 percent.

If you're one of those people in agreement with either the democrat or republican side too often, it might be a sign that you're just reacting and not thinking independently.

Imagine hippies in the old west, smoking a peace pipe... then their wagon train gets surrounded by 1500 Apache's pissed you just went through their ancestral grave yard... bummer dude and a bad hair day sure to follow.

Problem is they lack practicality... thought we were going to change the world back during Vietnam, then came Kent state (said screw getting shot at, I'll just drop out). So that philosophy will never get anything done without a lot of help.

Ehhh... Something of a generalization.... in the history of the old west, there were white folk who got along with the Indians and there were others who felt they had to massacre them. Most hippies I know would have chosen to get along with them and most red-necks would have tried to massacre them. So, not sure what you're sayin' there, pilgrim.

I'm saying some were definitely too soft to have made it in the old west and that a little hard core practicality is necessary to have a long term impact. I have lots of hippy friends in Oregon/Washington and we get along just fine, but I try to coach some of them in areas that they are weak in (such as protesting / military engagements). They don't generally understand war because many are too sensitive to face the hardness of the reality of hurt and pain. That is one of the reasons why weed is popular because it is a temporary escape from the harsh realities we live with today. Other people just allow their senses to get dulled and stop feeling. Although most people would not call me a hippy because of my NFL offensive lineman appearance, inside I do hold some of those values.

Got it.
There are all types, labels sometimes keeps us from seeing how it really is.
I've known some tough-ass growers, for instance, who would call themselves hippies, yet hold up well in a firefight.
And there are some burners who would run away crying. :)

Hey, I feel the same way about over weight men...but I doubt you'd want me to go there. So since we all have to play in the same sand box, maybe we should just try to get along to spite ourselves.

Let's hope they will be able to recruit enough people to make the strike have a big enough economic impact.
Even without the strike, you can tell how powerful the movement has become just by listening to how Fox news covers them. Not to mention they are being talked about constantly in the news--tv, radio, print, social media. Just the fact that they have been able to change the entire conversation in the country is a testament to their power. (and that's without even having a specific agenda, as some people seem to say.)

This reminds me of a joke that Lewis Black once told when he was invited to do his routine at the Kennedy Center for his HBO special and one of the center's officials pointed out: "Do you know how many times Lewis Black said the word "Fuck"?" and the show manager goes "No..." and the official said "42". "That meant that there was some asshole down in the bowels of the Kennedy Center watching my performance and going "one fuck, two fucks"...".

"I wonder what the line would have been... 40 fucks would have been fine, but oh no... he's gone crazy".
