Your playa daybook or whatever

Post by sparkletarte » Tue Aug 24, 2004 10:04 am

So. I know I will get an 'event listing' type of thing when I get there. And I know there are things going on that won't be listed in there.

I've seen a couple things I want to check out mentioned on this board. Should I be writing them down? Are they likely to be in the event listing I get at the gate? Do people make handbills and give them out during BM to let you know about their camp and what they are up to? Are there 'poster boards'? Mostly I'll just be cruising around looking for adventure, but some stuff, for example the meet and greet, the bellydance bootcamp, the lounge here and the lounge there, I want to check out. Do I want to be writing this down? I'm not really into the dayplanning thing in my regular life. How do you go through your playa days, as far as doing stuff? Guidance please.

I mark a map with a few things, then promptly foregt it at home every year.

Make a list. Leave it on your kitchen table.
Handbills = MOOP
You said "poster bords." hehehehe More like MOOP generators.

I usually make it to three or four specific cocktail parties, and sometimes the burn. I make it to my volunteer shifts when I have them. Other than, I am where I am when I'm there and not worried about where I am not.

Lose the wristwatch too.

Get this. I never wear a wristwatch at home, but I do on the Playa.

I thought I was the only one who did that. Can't stand 'em in the city, but for playa use only, they're great. And I take it off again as soon as I leave.

Yeah, I'm not a watch person either. I only have one clock, beside my bed. I use the sun usually, although without my regular landscape I'll be clueless for the first few days.

So...is most stuff in the guide that you get when you get there, as far as workshops and such?

Yes, lots and lots and lots of stuff listed in the WhatWhereWhen. Way more than you'll ever be able to do. There will be stuff that you really want to see that you'll miss, but the reverse is also true-- there will be stuff you had no idea about but absolutely love. And maybe not everything you are seeing here will be in the WWW, so I'd write it down.

I'm writing stuff down, just because my memory sucks. I'm also writing down friend's addresses, because I find that in my ears, one playa address sounds just like all the others (tum-de-dee and twee o'clock)

My daybook is a spiral notebook with Spongebob postcards on the cover, which also serves as my book of lists (is compulsive list-making a sign of OCD?) I know I won't forget it.

The Alternative Energy Zone has a whole clock based on body parts. "4 fingers" is when the sun is the distance from the western hills that 4 fingers covers when you hold your arm outstretched in front of you. 4 fingers = a great time for cocktails.

I have the meet n greet commited to memory, and four themecamps I promised I'd visit at some point in the week. Other than that, I go where the burn-spirit takes me.
