Re: Rest In Peace
So, I used to take part in shenanigans on a site called "The Dysfunctional Family Circus". This is circa 1996. Basically, a new strip would go up every week, and folks would write horrible captions for it.
Then the captions would get ranked based on their levels of humor. The obvious jokes were looked upon with only scorn. We had to become snappy. The humor was putrid. Incest, drugs, whatever. It worked because the source material was pure.
Then the King Syndicate Lawyers contacted the guy who ran the site. He said he wanted to talk to Bil Keane himself.
Bil called him. He asked him very nicely to stop. The guy running the site WANTED to keep going, but couldn't because when it came down to it, it wasn't a giant comics syndicate. Rather it turned out it was all run by someone who turned out to be a quality person.

It was one of the reoccuring in-joke themes. It would get submitted, and not be funny, but people making fun of those submissions were great.

Re: Rest In Peace
local London Ontario burner Brad Dixon (aka CampCounsellor Brad) passed away yesterday afternoon. His wife Amanda Thibeault and their three children are surrounded by family now and details will be announced soon.
All we've got so far is that he laid down for an afternoon nap and didn't wake.
Known to the Detroit and Toronto burner communities as well as the Southern Ontario Burners.

Re: Rest In Peace
Visited Amanda this afternoon. Her sisters are looking after her immediate needs. The frig is too full so hold off on casseroles for the moment. She had just made the arrangements. Visitation at James A. Harris Funeral Home in London Ontario on Friday November 18 (2-4pm and 7-9pm) and a memorial service on Saturday at 10:30am (location yet to be determined). Gifts to a trust fund for the children or to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
An autopsy showed Brad was taken by a heart attack.
Brad and Amanda had been at the Toronto Decomp on Saturday and Brad laid down for a nap on Sunday afternoon - never to wake again. I suppose if you're gonna go early it would be nice to think he was surrounded by burner love on his last day. But damn, he was a good guy and so young.
