Austerity looms over the US. Michael Hudson nails the anatomy of global banking vampirism. The OWS folks can use this to illustrate how banks run governments and how citizens can fight back.

Great article. Easy to read, eye opening hopefully for some, and pretty much spot on.Simon of the Playa wrote:http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2 ... lapse.html

Up sparkles. Got it.junglesmacks wrote: Fuck Whole Foods. Support your local locally owned co-op/corner natural products grocer/retailer!
There are a couple of privately owned natural food stores near the Whole Foods that I know of, but they're probably struggling.
Feh, there's no Whole Foods Market where I live, just liquor stores. No chance of them getting torched.

But since you mentioned it, I wonder how many people know why they do that repeating in unison thing? I've heard lots of people saying it's just the "hippie way". But actually, the police banned the use of amplified sound; so they used group repetition of the speaker's words as a way of making sure the speaker was heard.

It's called the "peoples megaphone" and it does work pretty good unless the speaker says a really long sentence without stopping. Then it gets kind of jumbled/mumbled and dies off which is sort of funny sometimes...

Hmmm, to be honest I am so swamped, I've only been able to look here in this thread, follow a link or two and then back to the grindstone for me it is (and move what little money I have away from the 1%, safely. I did it yesterday. I don't need their paultry interest)
I wonder, can they use one of the cone-like, old timey megaphones? Or what could I send them of equal value-ish? I like what I read about, and it's about time to throw them all out!
Maybe I won't vote for the lessor of two evils. I haven't gotten that far yet. Currently both the red and the blue alllll deserve pinks slips! F. you, you're all fired!
Now wouldn't THAT be something....throw the bums out.
If/when I ever get caught up, I will go on down to our local OWS and complain. I might just send send my part time employees/assistants if I have to; with instructions of how to behave and what to complain about (they want to go themsleves of their own free will, I'll give them a push or two)...time to disturb some shit, uh huh.
ETA...Yes. whining LOUDLY, we all have our reasons. Mine are personal, but valid. Same goes for my assitants, we're sick of being worked over the coals, bit by tiny bit...

Maybe a Laminar Proportional Amplifier?

I believe the statute regards artificial amplification, although it may specify electrical amplification.

You know, maybe the OP is right about Burning Man and OWS having things in common. You, know, the whole bringing expensive shit to a big party kind of thing people do at BM. Check out these 1% hippies:

Hey, nobody said that all of the 99%ers were poor. Many are what one might consider wealthy; most are what one might consider middle class; and the younger ones are children of the middle class or even the wealthy. Many of the poor/homeless (especially those that are focused on by the press) that are there, pretty much were there before the occupation started.

How about that lecherous dirt bag-former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn? Why is Goldman's Lloyd Blankfein hiring a criminal defense attorney?
Come on buddy, you're waving a bookey man flag around here. Parts of it may be true, but the worth of the occupy movement is certainly more overarching.

Oh good, the humanitarian rich kids are showing up with fancy supplies. Thanks for helping rich kids! Those of us with valid reasons to support/join the OWS appreciate and can use more and more and more help, until change occurs.....and that's not meant as a joke.
As for the burn, I wouldn't drag this tension there, it's a sacred cow for me, and I hope that goes the same for everyone else. We all have our reasons for seeing this differently, I'm just trying to avoid slipping through that laaast crack (after being slammed during the past 11 years by a series of natural disasters and a health problem, none of which were my fault) I wish I had more time to discuss the OWS here, but I must work 7 days a week, with my foot sideways across that laaaaast crack, if I am to make it through with basic shelter (and my old truck!)

I dunno, I just find it funny to see these people carrying around the artifacts of the companies they're rallying against. You know, like the same products people are blocking up ports for?jkisha wrote:Hey, nobody said that all of the 99%ers were poor. Sometimes I wonder if some of these OWS folk are just plants to have "placement ads" for companies. Now that would be hilarious.

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
part of my dilemma, is I like the idea of some big companies.
With size and scale, they can do things faster, better, cheaper a lot of times. and , fund research and stuff that small scale companies just can't do.
I sort of resent, painting all "big business" as "bad", or even greedy.
Some have big profits, but, also sustain big losses, at times.
The "broad brush" approach, I guess, is bothersome.
Just imagine, being able to afford a hand made car.................

Nothing wrong with big companies...as long as they follow the rules and aren't able to buy favors from politicians, and pay their fair shar of taxes. (don't forget, if you don't make a profit, you aren't required to pay taxes.)ygmir wrote:part of my dilemma, is I like the idea of some big companies.

Additionally, business will only invest big bucks to fund research that will return big profits. There are many equally important research projects that need funding which may not be profitable, which is where only government funding will make these projects and their benefits to society possible.
The problem is not big business per se, it is the influence their money is allowed to buy in politics and government.
