Thanks for the Moammaries

Post by maryanimal » Thu Oct 20, 2011 11:25 am

Moammar Khadaffi is dead. 46 years of the Khadaffi regime is now over. Will a new democratic government be possible?

Interestingly enough he was taken alive, and then killed in captivity without a fair trial. Considering who it was, kind of poetic justice. Curious to see if any human rights groups take exception to that.

Democratic? That would be asking for too much. There is no such tradition in Libya.

Known for certain: no Gadhafy in the future; even his heirs will find it tough sledding.

He held together disparate tribal groups. Expect them to find causes for conflict.

There are very few trained and talented administrators, most of those are returned ex-pats with few ties to local groups, or former Gadhafy henchmen.

I expect the main issue will be how Libya's oil wealth shall be distributed now.

I'm sure the human rights activist will have something to say. But we're talking about a country who's people have been repressed for almost 50 years. Khadaffi thumbed his nose at his countrymen and vowed to take his country back, punishing the "infidels" who turned against him. He basically hammered the last nail in his own coffin.

At least it wasn't the U.S. getting blamed for killing him without a trial this time.

Two things jump into my mind -

1) Reports I have seen describe his death as occuring when he was pulled from a truck he was being transported on by a crowd and stomped into a pulpy mess.

2) "His people" have had him on trial for a while I think and the jury came back with that. He described the 'rebels' as rats, yet he was found hiding in a sewage drain pipe.

Justice is done. He received due process.

Just ask the friends and families of the thousands who died under his regime or any of the Lockerbie families...

I think he earned what he got, but I also think that doing due process, especially right after a populist revolution like this, is very good practice. You want to ingrain those habits into your establishment early.

It isn't that I don't agree, but I am also happy that we did not a) kill him in a drone strike, b) get him as a POW, c) splatter him with a SMART bomb.

Democracy - will of the people.

Modern media has had an unusual effect on us as a people - on one hand we pay to go see murderes in the movies to the point that a genocide such as the one that was occuring in Darfur goes largely ignored in the West until it gets to the point of ludicrous. Yet after the genocide, there is an desire that the people who orchestrated the butcher of thousands receive a fair trial....

I know there are people here who have seen these things first hand.

I will tell you what - had General Cedros been found in Haiti hiding in a sewer duct by the squad I was in had we forcibly invaded AFTER seeing the results of his efforts to quell rebellion in "his people" through a brutal campaign of rape, torture, mutilations, and a slew of other party games, and the locals were with us - let's just say I would not have even thought about risking my life to save his had it gotten ugly. I met numerous people who described scenes where the women in the house were gang raped infront of their husbands and children right before the men were hacked to death with machetes and the children slashed but not killed, the whole time being told that they could do this because they were the agents of Genreal Cedros.

But that result wasn't what happened - nope.

We, the USA, flew he and his family SOMEWHERE on a jet with no markings to finish his life in exile.

So needless to say - I don't trust us to do the right thing all the time.

He got what he deserved - it was just too quick IMHO.

</soapbox>

I digress, but when you have seen this kind of shit first hand with no justice served, you tend to form strong opinions.

At first I wondered how he got my email, but I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth (or any newly mined orifices either).

It's not Jerry Nachman-level but I did get a chuckle at this:

Yeah that Bastard is dead,

I can see all the woman of that region who now under Shair Law, standing and cheering. Under that beast they enjoyed 40 years of freedoms and equalitizes not even known to western women. Under the new stricter laws, women are considered chattel, they will no longer be eligible for education, and now must belong to a man whether her Father, Brother, Son or Husband. She is no longer qualified to receive higher education.

That Fucker is dead, gone is the free health care for all paid in full if it required treatment out of the country, free housing for all, interest free loans direct from the government, they had nationalized oil, which means that for every barrel of oil the Libya government sold, each and every citizen got a share put directly in their bank account. Gone are the Government owned Banks not part of the WBO cartel (thieves) with their currency backed by gold, which is being divide up as spoils by the worlds banking organization, as we speak.

That Dick head swore that every person in his country would have decent public before he would allow his parents and family to occupy a residence (his father passed before he could make that happen).

oh there's more I could say about this curr of a man...

That's why I'd like to come up with a tool kit to measure and compare the levels of oppression better.
Like the other tool kit that I imagine for working for factories in the third world. If you get bladder infections from not being able to go to the bathroom, that's a sweatshop. If you are getting a little above the local prevailing wage, not so much.

oh, did I mention the 18(?) bloodthirsty Tribes he held in check, which now mus be dealt with individually, and all have free rein to commit unconciousable acts against the other tribes , and others. He successfully created one of the largest water projects since the LA Aqueduct (which NATO promptly blew up)...

How easy it is for us to armchair other the poltics of other countries, bombing them back to the stoneage, and looting their countries wealth and resources...
