Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
80s protest that worked (and it took years): South Africa disinvestment.
Late 90s/early zeros protest that shifted (to some extent) the talking points and changed the behavior of the targeted group: WTO (or was it G7?) in Seattle. After that they never met in a city like that, always in the boonies in some swank hotel with easily controlled local access.
Protests that were horrid failures in 90s and zeroes: The anti-war protests, both Iraq wars.
Very recent protests that didn't work: University of California tuition protests.
Very recent protest that lost the battle but did change the discussion and is perhaps a direct pre-cursor to this round: Wisconsin state government budget cut protests.
80s protests that really eventually did probably change things, although it's not easy to point out how: AIDS protests. If Occupy can get that many cultural levels going on (think of shutting down the Golden Gate Bridge and the AIDS Quilt) it's likely to create change in unpredictable ways. I'm not going to say that AIDS funding protests went directly on to gay marriage, but I think that the experience and momentum did go into the marriage fight.
I disagree with the common wisdom that Occupy needs to come up with a clear list of goals. I think that those top down, issues/talking points set by the leaders into a "clear agenda" are, and have been, the protests that failed/are failing. I think getting through winter is Occupy's next big problem, and that they've done very well at getting the idea that the economic playing field is not level (and what that means) into discussions. Anonymous has shown that they will pop up again, with another issue in short order, which possibly bodes well for continued action. And AdBusters waited a long time to make their move, and I don't think they are going to just sit on their hands.

Contact your web hosting provider, they should be able to delete the hacked site, resore the files from backup and help setting the permissions to make sure it's not hacked again. Assuming that there isn't a weakness in any of the code they exploited.

Is there some specific reason you had to change the domain name???

Well...I wish I could answer that. But I can't. Right now nobody seems to know a damn thing. What I do know is the website got hijacked, a mobile hotspot stolen, laptops compromised, and it's just snowballing out of control.jkisha wrote:Is there some specific reason you had to change the domain name???
At this point with it going off the rails I'm going to step back and wait until the smoke clears and see what pieces are left to be picked up. Ain't much else to be done I'm afraid...

Out of the Shadow of Fear
"The area teems with Mukhabarat.
Everyone knows who they are, even though they act like normal men.
They squat on curbsides, lean against walls, sit on benches or together by doorways.
They're dressed in shirts and trousers, like other men.
Though they might be more broad-shouldered than the average Syrian, and certainly have a stronger proclivity for leather jackets, the clothes aren't what sets them apart.
It's their glance.
They possess a way of looking that is inquisitive but not curious.
It's one-way; they want to take, not meet.
Their conversation, or lack thereof, is the other giveaway.
Between most people there is at least a little chitchat.
These men hardly talk, and when they do, they do it without facial expressions, without a jab in the side, a poke on the shoulder.
They don't talk like people really talk.
They are on assignment."

OCUPIER THAN THOU much!?
dear leader.. preach it:
kickin it up a notch!!Daniel, a tall, red-bearded, white twenty-something—one of the six leaders of the teach-in—said that those with “no stake” in the Occupy Wall Street movement shouldn’t have a say in how the money was spent. When asked whether everybody in the 99% had a stake in the movement, he said only those occupying or working in Zuccotti Park did.... Daniel said that he’d like to take a fire-hose and clear out the entire encampment, adding hopefully that only the “real” activists would come back.

Take the White Night riots and police reprisals in 1979. Helped things change, though fitfully. But nothing would have happened at any governmental level if the lesbians & gays hadn't gradually developed political power over the 1960s and 70s. Then look what happens w/ Prop 8 when you take things for granted.theCryptofishist wrote:80s protest that worked....

Re: OCCUPYWALLSTREET REINFORCEMENTS!
My information was exaggerated and I apologize. I knew of the call for rally back in July from this http://www.adbusters.org/blogs/adbuster ... treet.html though the first rally didn't occur until 9/17/11. There was indeed a short lag of information...of about a week, until the pepper spray incident... referred to as a media blackout from a couple sites Aljazeera: http://english.aljazeera.net/programmes ... 46728.html and Nation of Change http://www.nationofchange.org/occupy-wa ... 1317615506 were but a couple that commented. Sorry for misleading anyone.moonrise wrote: bigdane, How far back do you estimate, or know, the media has blocked the coverage of OWS? I did think of the White Nights, but was unsure when they happened, and was someone sure that it was outside the time range I had originally proposed. Wow. (More of an editorial than reportage in my view, but that's a quibble.)

60 Minutes interview with Jack Abramoff is an eye opener if you aren't familiar with the case. I just wonder how many others there are! According to Jack, there's a lot of others just like him buying congress. Unfortunately, these are a collection of snippets from the interview.

I don't disagree with the message, but there is a "tone" and I know that that's not possible on broadcast, and was thinking that it wouldn't be on cable either.
So it's a question on the media and what is and is not permissible.

If the OWS flops, IMO there's good reason to persue blocking the personhood of corporations in the USA. I'll start another thread JUST for that reason, if I must.
Do I really need to say, everyone isn't sittin' pretty here, hmmm, why attempt to derail this thread? Shame on you!!
