While I like the objective of Occupy, I will find another group to become part of...as Occupy Las Vegas in it's current form and civil war is certainly not it.

well, yeah......but, isn't it going from Manteca to Bakersfield, or something, in it's initial phase? and, even with those routes, I'd bet money wise, it'd never pay off....not to mention all the environmental "collateral damage" from building it, and the equipment.
The initial route, I understand, is the easiest to build, and, meant as a "trial" to see how it goes....well, however many billions it takes for that "trial" seems stupid.

First, let me say that I'm not versed on any of the things you mention as negatives, so I can't argue them. But I will tell you a story. Everybody laughed when they talked about building the subway in Los Angeles. It was originally supposed to go to Beverly Hills. Beverly Hills wanted no part of it. They feared it would make it too easy for undesirables to get to the city and that crime would rise. The rest of their arguments were very similar to those you mentioned below. Needless to say, the subway was built, stopping short of Beverly Hills, and it has proven to be a huge success. It is full to capacity during the rush hours and is used by most people that live anywhere on the line that work downtown. Not to mention that every place the subway stops has had a resurgence in business. The rebirth of Hollywood can be attributed to the subway.

Beverly Hills has now change their mind and wants it extended to their lovely city. Of course the cost to do it now is something like five time more than it would have been had they not objected. As soon as they stop arguing over the route, it will be extended. But that's another story.

Like I said, I can't really argue this, as I know nothing about it. I was surprised at the route you said they would build first. But personally speaking, I know if it were high speed and went to San Francisco I would use it. And I know the LA/Vegas route would be busy as well, probably busier.
